Not all of it...I somehow lost the photo but the fuel line in the tank and the oil line in the tank were just goo.

I'm happy to report that my oil line repair works, almost too well.

This saw came equipped with a 1/4" pitch chain and sprocket nose bar, but the previous owner thought he'd run a 3/8LP drive sprocket. As you can see, the drive links on the chain had suffered as well.

Evidently it was run that way for quite a while with the chain loose enough to go around and slap the end of the bar near the sprocket quite badly.

They also tried to hold the muffler cover on by threading a 1/4-20 screw into the hole of the baffle which did not hold so I used a rivnut to provide a solid anchor.

That project is done for now.

I know this post is from July, but just wondering if you preset the oil pump. IIRC once the adjuster cap is removed the hex top of the pump should be turned in until lightly seated, then backed out about one turn. Then run the saw and see if it has slowed down the oil flow. If all's good then replace the adjuster cap so it's in the "halfway" point of adjustment so it can be slowed or set for more flow from the preset position.

You'll really like the 590, and the 620 is better ported version of the 590 along with a few other up-grades that the 590 doesn't have. I own a user 590 and a new 620PW and a Shinny 600SX that still have never been gassed up......
I always keep my eyes open for a small Shinny! There are a few scattered around on FB market. Texas and Louisiana

So, S&S Work Saws has generously agreed to port my CS-500P. I really like this saw and would be happy if it performed like the current CS-501P does. Not looking for a race saw or anything, just more low end grunt with the 18" bar. I looked through some old threads and found that Mastermind has ported the CS-500P with good results. So, would this just be what's commonly called a woods port? I'm not sure that recutting the cylinder is even necessary but I could be wrong. I'm also not thinking that an ignition timing advance is needed either. Any suggestions here?

650 evl question. On the little ignition module (not the coil), what is the testing procedure to see if still good or not?

This is the service manual from Echo's tech site. I didn't look through it but it should have what you need.

Well, it does have the specs for the coil itself but nothing for the little ignition module which is a separate part on this particular system. The coil in the manual pics for the 650 looks like what I have.
The only IPL I have, however, shows a different, 1-pc coil/ignition module.

These are parts I have up on eBay and I got asked about it. The parts lot was part of a larger pile I bought a year ago so not off a saw I know anything about.
At least this manual confirmed the coil I have is within specs. 😁

Probably just needs BGD, wider intake and Exhaust, generously opened muffler, and make sure the exhaust timing is low (not too low of course), and similarly that the intake is appropriately high and flat. I'd convert the air filter to nylon mesh if possible. A slight popup and base cutting might be good to take a little weight off the piston, but I've never seen a 500.

I had this on on the bench today and outside for testing. I was really struggling to get it tuned, and the performance seemed really low, even for a 35cc saw. Customer who dropped it off said it was "boggy".

Compression is very good at 150 PSI.

After a few attempts (I pulled the limiters to facilitate the adjustments) I picked the saw up off the outside work table where it had been rattling and rumbling, and thought "this little saw is awfully quiet"...

Then I realized I had not pulled the muffler or looked at the spark arrestor screen. Pulled the screen, burned out the accumulated carbon that had blocked the exhaust, and the saw became much more lively.

I think the 16" bar is pretty optimistic but at least is now runs the way it should.

Hi all, the 590 and the 620p were acting up in the cold weather. I wanted to blame it on the walbro 86-578-1 fuel nozzles that replaced the stock nozzles.

They are notoriously hard to tune with the 86-578-1 nozzles and in my opinion, have to run too rich on the low speed jet, for the saws to even run right. I may actually try a few different walbro fuel nozzles to see if another would be better.

Here was some of the symptoms on both saws:

Left idling, the saws had no low end torque when resuming a back cut. Had to pull the saws off the wood, get rpms up, then plunge back in , which is stupid.

Boths saws had some sort of miss or a caclkle for the first tree or two.

Throttle response wasn't great, if left to idle.

Plugs looked fine.

Richened the high speed jet until the 620 was running 13,500, and the 590 was running 13,200. The issues went completely away. This amounted to all of a 1/4 turn per saw in 1/8 increments. They're just not screamers. They like to be a little rich. Driving in new walbro nozzles to get rid of the safety jet, don't have unrealistic expectations on rpms out of the cut.

After richening things up, could have the saws setting in the back cut, idling for a few minutes, touch that trigger, while right against wood, they came right to life.

I find my Echoes all run best just a little richer than factory. They don't like to run visible smoke rich like an old school saw does. The 500P is now on its way to Missouri, really looking forward to see it come to life. I've seen some videos of these saws after Randy worked on them and if mine turns out half as good I'll be quite happy!

Ferg congrats! Those oregon prolite bars are the same laminate bars that echo rebrands. Bout the only difference is the rebranded oregon bars are more expensive. But yer bar is identical to this echo part number:

20F0AD3378C

I think nowadays oregon calls em "advance cut"?

Anyhow, nothing wrong with them. I run one on my cs 6700 and the echo cs 590's come with one. These ones say "timberwolf".

One minor thing: if you don't have an angled oiler hole, clean it everytime you sharpen.
