Not all of it...I somehow lost the photo but the fuel line in the tank and the oil line in the tank were just goo.

I'm happy to report that my oil line repair works, almost too well.

This saw came equipped with a 1/4" pitch chain and sprocket nose bar, but the previous owner thought he'd run a 3/8LP drive sprocket. As you can see, the drive links on the chain had suffered as well.

20240713_072055.jpg

Evidently it was run that way for quite a while with the chain loose enough to go around and slap the end of the bar near the sprocket quite badly.

They also tried to hold the muffler cover on by threading a 1/4-20 screw into the hole of the baffle which did not hold so I used a rivnut to provide a solid anchor.

That project is done for now.

The 351 is a good little saw - a bit heavy for tree trimming but has a broad power curve. They're easier to work on for me than the original 020AV which was its counterpart back in the day. Neither model was a high revver but the Stihl had a slight edge.

G'day gents! I bought 2 Echo saw yesterday on FB marketplace.First was a Jophn Deere 650EVLmade by Echo & it has great compression, but no spark.I took the module off & cleaned it up,put it back on & it fired kinda weakly & that was it.
The 2nd saw is a 660EVL which also has no spark, even though the seller insisted that it had "great blue spark" when he "tested it".It's highly doubtful he ever tested it as the recoil will only work if I lay the saw on it's side & push in on the recoil.I tried swapping the recoil off the J.D.saw onto the 660EVL & got the same results.Any ideas on what causing the recoil issues? The pawls look good & identical on both saws.
I'd like to know if there have been any aftermarket modules made for these saws,or if a module from another saw like a Husky will fit & work?

I've been fixing a handful of cs-590's lately, doing things like 620 piston/cylinder upgrades, gasket delete, muffler mod, and carb mods...But this most recent 590 is throwing me for a loop. I did the standard mods after replacing the scored piston (and cleaning up the 590 cylinder) but the first start I noticed it was running hot and out of control. Noticing there was oil/fuel coming out of the base of the cylinder, I cleaned and re-sealed the jug.

It's still running away on me, like there is an air leak, although no more leaks in the cylinder base. I then pressure tested it with a rubber gasket between muffler and intake boot flange, and it held 10psi without a problem...

Is it common for the rubber intake boot to spring a leak? That's my only guess now, as it wasn't involved in the pressure testing.

Hope y'all have some input. Thanks

Just threw a carb from a working 590, and it still started to run away on me after warming up...

Those saws can tear intake boots, but it usually isn't very hard to see. That often goes with breaking the plastic handle or tearing the fabric limiter strap.

I picked up an Echo 490 yesterday powerhead only. It was missing bar nuts and the bar adjuster was missing from the cover. I just dumped the old gas (emphasis on old) and filled it with fresh mix...it fired up on the second pull. I have a feeling this one will get ported :)

Will you use the original jug or do a 4910 cylinder?
probably just use the 490 jug cus I'm cheap…and I haven’t ported a 490 before…done a couple 4910’s.

Loving this forum! My little Poulan Pro 20” of 20+ yrs chit the bed a month and a half ago right after our hurricane here in Houston. I lost a 22”+ wide pine in the storm and had to cut it into nickels to carry out of the backyard piece by piece. It made one and a half cuts and literally went up in smoke. Cranked again and I stuck it back in the cut. Then she was done. By done, I assume that 80 psi of compression sucks.

So I got to readin’ on here and the Echo 590 seemed to come to the top time after time. I looked at used because I’m cheap but then but the bullet and bought a new one. Got it home, put it together, and gassed her up. A couple of yanks and she fired right up. Ran her for a minute or two under no load and then stuck her in the cut. All I can say is daaaaaaammmmnnnn! I had apparently never run a “real” saw before because this thing is a beast!! Talk about making chips and piles of dust! It would literally drop through the tree in under a minute. Amazing.

I’m loving this thing and now look for opportunities to use it! Lol. I put a better seal around the air filter but nothing else yet. Have put about 4 tanks of fuel through it. I see folks talking about muffler mods which make sense and somer things that don’t - gasket delete?

Anyway, thanks all. I know more now than ever.

You'll really like the 590, and the 620 is better ported version of the 590 along with a few other up-grades that the 590 doesn't have. I own a user 590 and a new 620PW and a Shinny 600SX that still have never been gassed up......

I know this was posted quite awhile ago. I fought with a 650evl a few years back with the same recoil issues. If the dogs and rope rotor cup aren't just right on these, they'll slip every time. Took several tries to lightly file both the dogs and cup to get it to work as good as I could get it without searching for NOS parts that IIRC are NLA. You might try using a heat gun or hair drier on the pick-up/exciter and coil, I did this to a 550evl with no spark and it's worked ever since (knock on wood) lol.

Excellent choice you've made. The first mod I would do is remove the carb limiters and open up the high side just a bit. Echoes tend to be set lean from the factory for smog regs. I don't know if the 590 has a catalyst or not, but if so then you may want to lose that too. All in the name of longevity. I currently have a CS-303T, 2x CS-400, and a CS-500P. Echo makes great saws, I love 'em!

The 590 muffler is non-catalyst. Your 303 and 400's are, but I believe the largest models with catalysts are the CS-450's or maybe a few 510, 520, 530 models.
