4910 is a Shindaiwa in disguise. Direct descendant of the 488.
I had a new Shindaiwa 490 here, which was the same as the 488 in the US, wish I never sold it. Is the 4910 a split case then, they have a new 4920 I think over in Europe and it is a clam shell.

I'm pretty sure the Echo CS-490/Shindaiwa 491 here is just a cheaper version of the CS-500P, which I have and is a really good saw.

Seems like they are almost the same saws. Never heard of studs loosening in the CS500 though.

488 was a fine saw in its day. It’s possible it was slightly more durable but the design changes from 488 to 4910 are pretty small. Both are split case. But a 4910 has quad transfers.
4920 is available stateside. @Red97 did a nice video of porting one and made excellent gains. It’s quad ported as well, I’m not interested in clamshells.

I believe you are correct. The CS-4910/Shindaiwa 492 and the CS-501p share the same relationship.

This is the 490 I bought new about Eight years ago, not a great video but it shows the model of Shindaiwa 490 I refer to,
it was the last one in the shop, I think Echo and Shindaiwa got together after this. I had three CS501 saws later on, and they were the same as the CS4910, the 4910 was not available in Ireland.

It is very cheap. My cs 530 is the 50 cc under dog clammy that won the west. Offer still stands, anybody who wants this 4910, trade me a timberwolf........

I just bought an ultralight replacement for the 4910.........A CS 900 EVL. Almost went Husq 394xp(same price), till I read in the specs the longer stroke on the cs 900......

Isn't the 450/530 a sort of proline clamshell with metal tank assembly? I had a 450 for awhile and it did really well but was heavy for a sub-50cc saw

530 is the last of the kioritz pro 50 cc, before the merger. 11.5 lbs dry powerhead. Screaming rpms, indestructible. 1 second behind a muffler modded 620pw cutting 12 inch stuff. Slaps the 4910 silly. 4910 can't even pull a chain off my 530, rakers too low.

I have 3 695's & not the best saw, its arguably the lightest & most durable I've owned.
I've owned ALOT of saws in my 56 years, but few can compare to the Quality of the Older Shindaiwas.

Gullet, the 67-68 cc saws are ideal firewood saws. Zippy and light. I'd trade a 4910 and some extra funds if u want to part with one.

The old flame-torched qv-6700 got new bearings, seals and case halves sealed up with threebond 1207d. The old sealant was washed away and thats where the airleak came from. I'm sure sealants have come a long way since the saw was assembled in the early 90's. Bearings and seals were fine, but replaced them anyways. Will rebuild the carb tomorrow.

Case halves split easy. Cleaned them and heated them up on woodstove to expand the bearing pockets. Put bearings outside in the cold to contract them. Bearings dropped right in. Once assembled, the bearings had some tension on them and the crank wouldn't spin freely. Couple taps on the crank ends, and everything is centered, crank spins freely. Very easy saw to tear down.

Needed an echo-specific puller for the press-fit oiler worm gear and another echo tool to reinstall the worm gear. I didn't mind purchasing the tools because these metal oiler gears are worth it. They never fail like the plastic worm gears.

Bummer, cylinder didn't clean up, scored through the chrome plating. Hopefully I can find a good used cylinder. If anybody knows of a used 6700 cylinder, would be greatly appreciated.

Have a spare cs 900 evl handle, so trying to figure out where to cut it down and tig weld to existing handle to make a full wrap. The bottom of the saw, handle-end is completely exposed. This will be an easy job:

Finally enough snow to clear my 3 mile and 5 mile dog mushing trails. Widened a couple turnarounds, cleared blowdowns and cleared a few trees that make for dangerously tight turns.

Enjoyed working with the cs 900 evl. Way ahead of its time. Its a modern saw, but simple.

Thanks chief,
The 6700 is getting close: new cylinder torqued down onto a hearty bead of threebond sealant. Without base gasket, squish is right a .040". The finish/qaulity of the ports was so darn nice, I'm not gonna grind on a single one of em. The ignition advance, muffler mod and base gasket delete will be plenty.

The original worm gear was a plastic one. I upgraded to the brass oiler gear used on the cs 670, using the echo oiler gear tool.

For you husq guys, if you like a 266 se, you'll really like a 6700.

Howdy I'm new to this thread but I'm enjoying the content. I just bought a 650evl at a pawn shop. It was marked as a non runner as-is. I figured it was worth $50 for the cool factor. As with many pawn shop as-is "non runners", it runs.lol At least, it starts. I'll look through it before I try to cut with it. Quite undeliberately, I'm amassing a very small vintage saw collection. Olympyk 999f. Stihl 056, 041, and now the old Echo. I have a few old Homelites as well but they're a dime-a-dozen around here so not very exciting.

I've been intrigued by the Shindaiwa/ Echo affiliation mentioned here. I have a 22t Shindaiwa weedeater that is nearly 20 years old and has been a joy to own. I'll be watching for some of the pre-merger saws mentioned here.
