Good running 490 yah got there. Nice sized saw log too.

Just scored a new old stock hda 45 carb. It's the largest one for the old 1980's cs 8000p. No need in a ported saw breathing through a straw.

That will work on a newer 800p? I got a nice one that needs building. I hear the tone carb is the bottle neck. Would like to find a bigger carb that was a fairly straight forward conversion. Also, those were some nice looking boards you milled out!

Whitesnake,

Itll work on the 800p,but you'd loose the choke-engaged high-idle
You'd probably have to retro-fit the throttle lock and throttle lock trigger, off the older 8000.

Now that most of my fresh chainsaw-milled slabs are hauled to my cabin site, decided to break up the monotony and begin clear-cutting around my cabin site. The snow is rotten, so won't get the last 15 slabs till the ground drys out.

Ironic that both my cs 620pw has a cheap plastic chain brake toggle, which is broken. The cs 4910 has a torn rubber av mount. They're mighty thin.

Yet the flame torched $175 QV 6700 and the $150 echo cs 530 are ready to go, cutting nicely for the past 2 days. These used echos are a fraction of the price of my 620pw and 4910. Just because a saw is old-school, doesn't mean it's obsolete........

Looked at the IPL for the 5500 and lots of stuff including air filters are NLA. It must be a really old one, Echo normally supplies parts for decades after a machine is made. The architecture and styling cues suggest early to mid 80's, when Echo was transitioning to vertical cylinders.

Happy Friday folks. I hope everyone is enjoying the return of summer. Just wanted to share my echo customer service experience.

Having no dealers here in interior Alaska, echo agreed to send me a new brake handle for my 620pw and new rubber av mount for my cs 4910. They'll allow me to fix the saws myself. And to think that I have another 3 years of warranty on these darn saws. Awesome company.

Glad they're taking care of you Mainer. I'd prefer that to leaving it at a saw shop for weeks...or months on end anyway. 👍 Just for the halibut I did a "Echo dealer Alaska" search on the Echo dealer locater website. Most of the dealers that came up don't actually sell Echo products. Maybe they used to? Or just service them? Idk

Yep, no echo saw shops up here. The flame torched echo qv 6700 is down. Cut whole frozen cows half the winter then felled and bucked all my firewood for this coming winter.

Went lean and boggy on the throttle response after dropping a 26" diameter Alaskan birch. Went to start limbing the saw log so i can mill it tomorrow, and she went lean. No amount of low speed jet adjustment would bring er back to full glory.

Probably a crusty old main seal or even time for carb rebuild, carb boot, rubber lines and fuel filter.

Question for you Echo people; Really first venture into Echo territory and it is on an Echo 280e. Looks straightforward in its design. Got one that doesnt have the chain tensioner and another that does. Thinking about breaking the one that does down and replacing the ring and seals. However, the base gasket is NLA and wondering if any other model is out there that you can get the gasket for fits it? Or how it takes a gasket delete? Thanks in advance...

I believe the 280 is grandfather to the top handle CS-300/3000 series. I have a low miles CS-303T. Great little saw but you can tell it's a dated design. I rebuilt a CS-3000 I used to have and used Permatex Moto Seal for the crankcase, see no reason why that also wouldn't work for the jug.

Yeah, Dirko would work just fine but prefer to put base gasket on. I wonder if one from a 300 would work?
