Gullet,
620pw is a good all-rounder. Would be a good one to keep "indoors".

Mine smells like burnt hamburger, it's certainly an outdoor saw.

Cutting up free cows to feed my dog team, cutting river ice, milling with low pro chain, gathering firewood, it's a versatile saw.

Never ran one so cant comment.
Weighs .5 pounds more than my Shindaiwa 695 (68cc vs 62cc on 620).
A LOT of people LOVE em tho so I'm sure it's a great saw.
COOL pics!

I used to cut up Whitetail Deer with my Homelite Little Red XL (33cc's).
Always used Canola Oil for bar oil.
Dont use use it much anymore. Lol

All Chainsaws are xpensiver here, then in the US
Well that is no fun. It would be cool to try one of these out, but not for that price. The 4910 is only a little bigger and I can still get them from the local farm store for $359.99 USD

Yes, the 4910 you can't get here.
And Echo 's new 4920 is not available in Ireland until March April time, its a clam shell,
and is priced at 650.00 euro, that is way too much for a clam shell saw of 50cc.
Looks like Echo are jumping on the band wagon here, charge and it will be paid, not a hope.

That's a whole new way to throw chips. ;)

Where in AK are you? Curious to see it on a map to get a better picture in my head.
Good day Spike,

I live right in between Salcha and Delta Junction. Mostly Alaskan Birch and White Spruce. That hill alongside the left bank of the river off in the distance:

Oregon versacut 72DPX 3/8 chain has proven to be a really tough chain. I've knocked teeth off exl chain cutting up dog food.

A little bit of the chrome plating has chipped, but not the teeth. Was good for an entire medium sized frozen cow, which will feed the dog team for an entire month.

The ugly old qv-6700 is a good tool for the dirty work.

while the 501 history looks like this: 466s -> 452s> CS-490/500 -> CS-501/4910.
I am quite surprised that you list 452 as a predecessor of 500. I always thought that 452ESX was just "smaller bore" version of 500ES (and its cheaper variant 490ES) - similarly to the farm line 450/510 (now replaced by 4510/4920).

P.S.: I really enjoy your informative posts.

As for 4920 - it is just as clamshell as 4510 is (also 4010) - they are all farmer saws = plastic chassis.
Do you know why Echo decided to use outboard clutch in the 4920-4510-4010-3510 line? All their other chainsaws (except of very old models 450/510, 680, 8002) do have inboard clutch.

I would like to know this too, I like the inboard clutch, easier to remove the saw if you get the bar pinched,
easier to put chain on for new users too, which the 4920 not being a pro saw is more geared towards.
Echo seem to be continually introducing new models, a lot faster than Stihl or Husqvarna, are we gradually
heading for throw away saws, the echo saws seem to be more plasticky, not saying they are not good saws
but why not use more metal for longevity.

310->310 no change :) Inboard, "plasticky" entry level saw.
352-> gets a 3510 which replaces it ant 370. Lighter saw (lightest of it's kind), +15% of power, -8% of weight.
370-> 3510 changed to outboard. Lighter saw (lightest of it's kind), +9% of power, -24% of weight.
400/420-> 4010 was outboard, remains outboard. Same amount of plastic. Became 7% lighter (again, lightest 40cc farmer thing), gained 18% of power, shares clutch components with 4510
450-> 4510 was outboard, remains outboard. Both clamshell farmer saws. All industry makes plastic, nobody wants to pay extra for magnesium with weight disadvantage. -100g off the whole assembly, +15% of power.
510/520/530 -> 4920 - see above.

So, nothing actually changed lineup wise except for 3510.
Inboard/outboard is never ending debate (see 2T oils for reference :) ) and each type has it's benefits.
Some of them are:
- Possibility to make shorter & lighter PTO (point of chain tension is closer to the bearing, eliminated outer fastener area as clutch acts as fastener)
- Better cooling of the right seal, not enclosed using hot clutch (especially important in plastic housings that do not dissipate heat as Mag)
etc..
