The 590 doesn't look bad but the 620 looked very good! Would the carb off of a 680 or 800p help the 620 any further?

They are both 590's lol. The ported one has a 620 coil. And is getting a 620 carb.

the carb off a 800p is pretty small though.

The 620 carb is as big or slightly bigger than the 800 carb. It should be just what this saw needs.

If not I'll fit an 372/660 carb on it...

I wonder why they'd put a smaller carb on a larger engine, unless for midrange performance/torque? Hell, in that case, I wonder how a ported 800 would do with a 660 or 390/395xp carb, whichever was the easiest swap?

The ported 800p is strong with the OEM carb even though it's a little small:

Here it is running in 30-40" Red Fir (@6500 ft. elevation)...36" bar with full comp chisel:

One of the members on this site sent me the bigger carb off his cs-8000 but I won't have time to try it on the 800p until next year.

It all has to do where they want the peak power to come in. They stuck with the hda series carb, hda series only are made so big 20ish mm bores and 16.8-9 venturi. Is the biggest hda series carb made stock.

Not really a smaller carb on larger engine issue. The 590,600,620 are a relitivly new model. Ment to turn more rpm, thus needing more rpm.
Echo hasn't really changed the appearance/size of the 6700/8000 in the last 20+/- years so the carb box area was designed around that family of carb. Which is about the right size for the mild rpm these saws are designed for.

Yep, they can be made to work,

What is the number off the 8000 carb? The hot ticket would be a 066/660 carb on the cs800. But would require modification to the air box for sure.

The ported 590 sounds great Joe. Definitely sounds pig rich to me, but when he really leaned on it, it cleaned up.

Torque seems incredible.

Great jobs as usual.

Thank you sir.

It is super rich in that video, the stock carb is 1/4 turn out on the high. It will gain 700-1000more rpm with the high fully closed, but still 4 stroking as hard in the cut. Once I get the 620 carb on, think it will like 14-14,500.

Torque has really impressed me. The saw itself seems pretty impressive.

cs-8000 carb: HDA 63-1 (16.66 venturi I think). Echo used three different carbs over the years on the cs-8000. The 63-1 is the one I will be trying on the 800p.

cs-800p carb: HDA 153B (15.88 venturi I think)

Sounded like a coil limiter kicking in and out to me .

So what's the performance difference w/the unlimited coil? I assume that you'll be able to tune for a bit more chain speed.

Well, I'm not entirely sure.

Once I get the carb swapped out, and the tune dialed in to my liking. I plan on tossing the (stock 590) coil back on.

Don't recall for sure but the stock limit is around 13k -13.5k

Now this saw is still pig rich in that range, if ya happen to be cutting a softer wood, it could turn miserable trying to get it to clean up. Having to set the spikes so hard the chain will catch and slip the clutch.

Yes it may not hold more than 13k in the cut, but I really feel this saw will have an ideal tune in the 13.8-14.4k range
A good bit above stock.

Also the cs 620 coil does have a more aggressive timing curve. That should definitely be a benifit in a fully ported saw. Not so sure in a stock saw.

I have to gather some good test logs, but I plan on swapping the 620 coil to the stock saw with just the carb limiters removed and see if it picks up anything.

I have 2 more of these to build. I have a few tweaks to the recipe I want to try. Build #2 (Christmas saw) is going to have a 620 coil also. And try keep the stock carb useable. Build #3 is going to be a torque saw utilizing all stock parts.

It will be a fun experiment. I hope...

The torque saw would be fun with a 28-32" bar and semi-skip chisel... I'd love to see/try the higher-test saw with a 20-28" bar of full-comp chisel for limbing/bucking... I'd really be curious to see where/how it compared to my muffler modded 562xp, Ported 372xp and a (stock to modded) Dolmar 6400, with regard to handling, torque, throttle response and "fling-ability" when limbing/bucking/felling as 60-70cc saws are a jack of all trades. I'd compare the MS362, but I just don't like them and think that the Echo series has more hidden potential then the 362. The 6100 is a darn good saw, but it just didn't light me up... Red, what part of Michigan are you in? My Wife has some UPper (OO-per) friends just off of Lake (either Michigan or Superior I don't remember)... Beautiful country either way.

I just happen to have a 32" echo bar in the mail, but it is getting full comp :)

I have a 562, waiting it's turn on the bench. Plus the 359/7 building up a 60cc shootout lol.

Stock to stock the 590 was real comparable to the 6100 in every way except anti vibe. Dolmar hands down with av.

I'm in the south central lower peninsula. Little town of leslie between lansing and jackson.

Got my 620 carb today...

Hopefully it helps.

Well put the 620 carb on today, didn't really notice a change, and still couldn't lean the high side...

Though maybe the large muffler mod wasn't scavenging properly, swapped on a stock muffler no change either.

Still has some sort of auxiliary bypass port.

Guess the next step is to retro fit an old carb.

between 13,800-14,200

little lean, 14,800-15-300+

Old ebay carb, think a kit will fix it up. Chain got ran into the dirt before thes videos, decent chunk of hickory 20" bar.

Bout 14,400 this thing comes alive...
