Ok, our resident midget pig informed me I was measuring wrong... when I get back I will perform the correct width measurement's.

Have just been going stright across. Not with the curve...

But most of the time, on width I just take out the factory bevel.

I have heard two divergent comprehensions of the % of bore measurement. I understood it to be across the Chord when you are using the diameter ie 50 mm * .7 = 35mm

I have been using chord measures as you described.

I was gonna take a paper and trace the port, lay it flat, measure to avoid the maths...

I thought it was the linear measurement across the port, not the arc you measure.

I rarely can get past 60% without going past the skirt on most stihls.

Inside edge of each line is 1.115 x25.4 =28.32 mm about 57%. So I guess I am close to 60% as I went just past the lines. If we are measuring across the port.

The 268 piston measures 1.410 so it has plenty of skirt.

Over 70%, but the exhaust flange is only 1.3xx outside edge to outside edge. Can't get too carried away on the inside just to choke it on the outlet.

The term is % of .......Bore which is also described as diameter.

It is not percent of circumference which is the cylinder wall.
