I have some loops on my 91dl bar. It sharpens quick but it's Oregon chain. I did file a loop of skip Stihl 110 dl yesterday a few times while I was milling. I hit the rakers once and shouldn't have. It was violent and had to try to keep the 394 from stalling in the cut.

You're just slow[emoji12] skip is 1/3 less cutters than full comp. I haven't counted a semi to see.
The first loop of skip I've ever owned came yesterday on the 7310 from Guido. I ran it through the grinder once for the gullets and once to sharpen it. I noodles and bucked with it for an hour til it started raining. Noticeably quicker to sharpen and did a great job noodling

I may try to test it later. I have ash that is about 20" wide. I don't think semi is that far behind full comp.

I would really like to see the results of your tests, cause in 19" Red Oak, full comp was about 2 seconds faster for me (RSL compared to RSLH).

It will all be filed chains. I'll try to get a semi skip touched up. I cut a rock with it the other day.

Might not be the same bar length. I can't find a single full comp 91dl. I may be able to do it with 110dl with a lot of extra sticking out.

Someone here is selling 100' rolls of RSL for NZ$550 (about US$390). Am very tempted but:
  • never square filed before
  • don't see many super clean trees (once I have felled them, they are skud ;-)
Should I bite the bullet and have a go? Worst case I give up and grind them to a round ground chisel (I know, I know, you don't need to say it).
Are the RSL cutters the same length as RS?

cutters are not the same off the roll ,but can both be made round or square ,i think the square ones may be a little taller i have over the round .

I thought the RS & RSL were the same cutter, just with a different grind, but I could be wrong!

PS I like square!

No pro here but i like the rslh alot then when it dulls i just round file it and it works for me and yes the cutters are a little bigger i have found i have a hard time square filing plus stihl dont make rs in half skip and 1 square file is 12 to 15 bucks and dozen round files is 12 15 bucks its no brainer for me
