I had one of those bummer deals too
Bought a smashed 353 for the top end and found this in a supposed one homeowner saw. Guess my local shafts more than just me.... great plating here too.

Id take it for a experiment i got going on. Its top secret tho. Whats shipping cost to detroit

Just send me an address.

For what its worth i put a couple years on a meteor top ,and it lasted good ,sold one to a logger ,he has been running it on a 460 for a couple years now . They aint all bad .

Tracy ran a hybrid I built for several years. It had a Meteor top end. He actually wore a piston out, and the jug was still spotless.

Also, remember......I won the 066 deal with a New West jug and a Meteor piston.

You might be right sir. I've already pitched it in the trash though. My worst fear is having a piston explode ruining the case, crank, etc. I trust Meteor pistons, or OEM. I have no faith in any others.

Well, I bought 3 of them to work on some Husky 50/51/55's. Here is a representative sample of what they look like:

I was thinking that all Hiway cylinders look like this and that builders just 'cleaned' them up. Though I personally have no idea on how to clean this up since I do not do port jobs. So you think I should not use these???

I've seen the dot-effect on a few aftermarket cylinders (in the squish band area) but am fairly clueless as to the symbol. Sorry :(
While I agree this whole deal sucks, does anyone have a explanation for those dots? Are they from the sorry ass plating process or what?

I say use that. I'm doing something a little different. Folks pay me to alter the cylinder, so I like to start with the best jug I can.

It's not fair for you or him to start with a $10 cylinder. How long would it last? Not worth the time or money.
A big REPPED for you for not just taking his money and sending him back a piece of junk.

This happens more often than you would think. 90% of the time, the saw came from eBay.

True. I only buy parts saws off efee, when the price is right. That way I know not to get my hopes too high.

This is a very unfortunate thing(misrepresentation) that gives everyone in the industry a bad name. What little amount of sales I do are face to face local transactions where everything is out on the table. I have one saw that's been in a box with another box of new Am parts next to it sitting there for over a year, as I could not bring myself to sell a near 100 percent complete AM build, it's just too much. I think I found a solution to this, making this saw into a loaner for the shop. Glad to see you can get this squared away right for your customer. Surely he'll come to you first when he's looking for his next saw.

Bring out "the loaner". LOL

I don't sell nearly as many used saws as I once did. Mostly I get new saws for people to save them on shipping.

It'll be coming out of its little box of shame pretty soon. Amazed me that someone could so completely and thoroughly destroy a saw. Saved the crankshaft though, haa-ha. Will be my ultimate AM parts test project for an 036.
