Boy, no bad saws in this thread, eh? :)

I'm guessing TR asked this in the context of what saw do you leave set up with a 28" for when you need one, and for me it's this 920 Super. For whatever reason the bar ended up on this saw and kind of stays there. I have 288's, 385's and a couple of strong 930's, but they are all set up with 24's which usually suffice for bigger stuff that I run into. But this log definitely needed the 28".

Troof. My 395 doesn't see any action unless it has a 36". I used to run it with a 28" but I have plenty saws that are lighter that will rip with a 28" so what's the point.

I would like to think all these 90cc saws will pull a 28" bar with ease. LOL

Gearing changes everything guys, including yer perspective

Here’s what I’m running these days ..

MMWS 242xp - 16”
MMWS 262xp - 20”
Mike Lee 2171 - 24”
MMWS Solo/7910 - 28”
MMWS 288xp - 32”
Pioneer P-60 - 36”

Someday I’m gonna get me a 125 Mac and run a 42-50” on it.

Anything 70-80cc should pull a 28” just fine.

No. For fun. :) It’s what I got in that cc range, so if I need a 100cc saw, that’s what I will use.

It’s getting rebuilt right now...

I’m strongly considering a new 42” bar for it. :D
Plenty reliable to work every day, but some will complain about wieght.

I ran mine with a 9 pin and 28" it ran great but I can't see lugging that thing around when I have saws much lighter that'll do the work.
If you were over 50, I'd understand why you have this disposition, but your a young guy and all young men need to workout to keep up ................ so make it a gym day and lugg that 395 around !!

9 tooth 3/8 is about the same as 8 tooth 404.
I was talking about running a 9 tooth 404

Muh 180 wears a 28".

Now thats makin due with what you have!!! Lol.
My ported 661 wears my 28" bar and I'm very happy with it. It oils just fine with the 404. I only pull it out once in a while to cut. Most of the time its 24" or smaller. Its weight really doesnt bother me and it balances fairly well. I think 28" is too small to do my ported 394 justice. 32" or better for that.

Dolmar PS-7310 with muffler mod but otherwise stock - removal of the SLR is a must!

I don't own a 28" B&C setup so I utilize 28" length of my 36" B&C setup - does that count?!
P1030901.JPG

Why PS-7310?
a) Because she's currently the most impressive saw I own, she feels stronger that my PS-7900 - whether she truly is or not will require a shootout.
b) Because someone has to give her love and attention and I'll gladly be the one who does.

For the poll I agree if my vote gets included to the PS-7900/7910.

What a liberal, left leaning, bias poll w/o a single Stihl saw to be selected! Of course another brand will win!!!

I'm with DEETS. My vote goes with my CFB Hybrid w/28" light Stihl bar.

Why??? Because it pulls a 28" real well, is lighter than almost all the other saws mentioned, and when you have to fell a tree in a difficult situation, (like if you are off balance or have to reach to make the cut) this saw is a wonderful tool to have.

Ditto when I'm standing/balancing on a wood pile and have to reach to make a cut.

Ported 460/461/7900/7901 will all pull a 28" bar w/authority, but they can not match the weight of my Hybrid.
