I love ms461r with a 28” es light, good balance and great torque, I run skip 8 tooth 3/8,( faster to sharpen) and it pulls it great! That’s the only bar I run on it...I have other saws for every other length bar, 25” is a waist to me, a 28” is only a little longer and is a better balance. With a 661 28” would be the shortest I would really run with that saw. I don’t have a lot of nasty hardwood around here though. Obviously a 90cc saw would be faster, but all around I like the 461 for a 28” bar, it is my dedicated 28” saw!

The 395 is a animal with a 28” bar as expected. I think that or the 7910 would be a good choice. The 046/461 seem to have about as much low end torque as the 7910, but needs the high output oiler of the R version if your running longer than 24” in hardwood. 28” is stingy with standard oiler in my experience. I think the 7910 has the edge over the 461 via the smoother AV and a bit more overall power imo.

View attachment 133988 Ran a tank and half thru it today on a good sized oak. It responded very well to the muffler mod.

Out here beastin with the god body stihl. You hang a 36 of that?...bet it pulls it like a locomotive. Steam even. I'm surprised that goofy lookin red saw even makes it out of the garage.

Lmao that is my buddies 025. That and his 391 never even got cranked. He wouldn't put my @rattler ported husky 261 down.

Meh .................. run a 36" with the 8 tooth 404
Find a 9 tooth 404 rim for that small 28"

:D
Troof. My 395 doesn't see any action unless it has a 36". I used to run it with a 28" but I have plenty saws that are lighter that will rip with a 28" so what's the point.

It’s the only one I own of the list. I’ve ran 660s and they seamed heavier even though I have no scale proof.

My 281 never really let me down unless it was my own fault. (Broke the recoil rope by not using the decomp, or replacing it when I knew it was fraying.)

I think the MOFO ported 460 is a very versatile saw. It will pull a 28 with ease and not too much weight. And you can go smaller as well. Good on fuel and torquey.

I agree completely. If 28” is a the biggest you plan on going, a good 75-80cc will do just fine.

I picked up a 36” for the 395, but it’s heavy so I’m only going to use it when needed. The 28” can probably do 99% of what I’ll need.

I’m sure my 7910 will pull the 36” but I know mine won’t oil it adequately.
