Cmon now, yall, this isn't supposed to be sad. I have no kids and never will, and what little family and the friends I have will all be gone by then (the only downside of all your friends being 55-80.) This was meant to be objective and to encourage LawnBoy to give more serious consideration to the path he's on and the direction he's walking.

I love to labor. When I can't run a saw and garden any longer, that's the time. I've seen too many people waste away for years, nearly incapacitated, with little to no quality of life. That's a sad existence, IMO, but to each their own and with their own priorities and definition of quality of life.

Now, cheers and cheer up you jacknapes!!
I somewhat agree. I don’t wanna waste away. If I can’t run saws and be active and do labor around the farm that’s the time I guess.

In case you've never heard this before:

There are old fallers, and there are bold fallers, but there are no old, bold fallers.

Something to chew on in many aspects of life.

This 100%. I've watched this happen to several loved ones and I have no desire to experience it. I'm going to work until I drop dead by choice because its my life and no one else's.

3 of my older cousins, 1 male, 2 females, went to college. The male is actually still in college. They live in the city and are fancy and those girls actually worked their asses off each doing 2 jobs so they could pay for college all on their own with no debt. The boy has one job and idk how much debt he’s gonna have if any.
I’m not going to college.
That’s my version of a Bill G story I guess. 🤣
Too short, need to be much longer. 🤣

I agree with the sentiment. I won’t ever retire and money has nothing to do with it. Retirement is a big fat rat race lie. Many people píss their best years away and die not long after their 40 years and gold watch.

You know the funny thing is the more you apply physical labor to the human body the more you fend off the frailty so prevalent these days. We may think it’s normal for such maladies to befall us because it’s so common, but it really isn’t normal. Eat right(mainly no simple carbs/grain), physical activity (HIIT for an appropriate physiological response), and genuine relationships should see most anyone into their 90s in great shape. Barring an unfortunate event that is.

Her clothes may say she rides horses, but her legs say it was just a photoshoot.

As someone who will probably never be able to afford full retirement, I can second this. I also don't expect to get too far past 65. When my body fails, its time to go.
She probably has ridden the c0ck carousel. Would avoid!

I had several customers in their early 90's coming in to buy a MS 171, 211 or 251 (easy start) because they wanted to keep cutting firewood, but it was getting too hard for them to start their bigger saws they used to use all the time. Then we had other customers in their 40s-60s pushing +350lbs riding around on the battery operated carts to do their shopping...big contrast.

While we’re on the topic of education, work, retirement…

I can say this. If you can maintain a standard of living that is acceptable to you without killing yourself… Do it. Forget what other people think of you and you do you, as long as you’re agreeing to the basic terms of the social contract.

I’m 5’6, and the heaviest I ever weighed was 175 pounds. I laid a lot of pipe, built a lot of fences, chucked a lot of heavy square bales, fought a lot of fire, fell a lot of trees, fabricated and machined a lot of metal and ran a lot of equipment while I was going to engineering school to graduate without debt.

Then I worked as a foreman, superintendent, project engineer & manager in heavy civil construction.

Then I started working for myself where I did everything, working during the day and bidding at night. Do whatever it takes to knock a job out, even if it’s 5x12-14s and an 18 hour shift Friday night into Saturday. Add in checking in on the job Sunday and working on your old iron because it’s what you can afford…

I was the whole grind thing personified. Went after the “career” thing with both hands on the bull’s horns.

And I paid for it. I’m not 40 yet, but running a saw for 6 hours now absolutely kills me and has my back spasming by 1:00. I can’t get out of a dozer cab without shooting pain after a couple of hours putting in shot rock

I remember looking at the old guys who were broken down and telling me the same stuff I say now and think I’d be the exception… Turns out everyone can only be an Iron Man for so long.

Take care of yourselves, dudes.

The lady in the photo is wearing jodhpurs. Skin tight riding leggings, that go well with riding boots. She is holding a riding crop. It is a short whip used to control horses - or sometimes used in bedroom fun and games.

As soon as you get a girlfriend you will want (need) to earn more money. Good luck. Avoid the crazy ones.
They are all crazy at some point of their lives.
The hard part is watching for signs it’s happening on your watch.
Luck of the draw to avoid the crazy times
