Basically what you are saying, I guess. It doesn’t seem to run at full throttle. It hold it back a bit almost seeming to limit with fuel. I don’t know. But I really notice it when I am bucking a tree. When I start my cut on top, and then scribe down the side of the tree, I would really like it to run WOT, but it holds it back a smidge. It’s just how the 500 is, and it takes some getting used to, when you are used to running other saws, I suppose.

Ya so far the rev limiter kicking in when limbing or brushing out around a tree is the only thing I hate about the 500i... Other than using lots of fuel.
It's almost like running 2 different saws.
It's got plenty of torque when stumping or making bigger cuts.
The going into three quarter throttle mode when limbing blows...
When mine was breaking in I thought it was a breaking stage. You know the rev limiting or fuel cut off...
Someone needs to mount a tac to get an idea how bad the rpms drop... when limbing or cutting trail.
Going to an 8 tooth would work just not very good running a 32-36 inch bar. Maybe a ported one would still have good stumping power with an 8pin ...
Anyone running them like that?

Limbing and bucking a big piss fir really cuts down on power output/speed. The kind where you have to fall some of the limbs.

How many degrees advance would be best? Or is there a fuel system mod!!?? On the smaller ranch/ tree farm jobs I cut we don't have a processor.
I only use a 32 or 36 on my 500i.
I run 28s on 562s or on a 462 with an 8pin ...

I feel like it's not even rev limiting that bad. I had a tack on it the other day and freeload was still 12k.

Now it would jump past that for about 2-3 seconds sometimes. Not sure what the computer was doing there.

That baby Hemlock/Red cedar hell that's up on top of Signal Tree is hard to keep track of stumps. Old and new...lol Not much fun with a rev limped saw...
The unit I was on up there we had to slash everything, it stucked badly.
You cut that with Bill and vic correct?

The wrap clutch cover (1142 640 1701) has a bigger rubber flap on it as well. Curious why they're putting leather flaps on instead of that...
The way the wrap clutch cover deflects chips is quite a bit different than the old style wrap cover. One of the things that I personally don’t like about Stihl’s new design. But it doesn’t bother a lot of people. I want it to deflect chips like a Husqvarna wide discharge clutch cover, lol.

Yeah, lots of stump sniping to help save these trees. Lots of stumps like you said from now and before. We have to slash everything near the road. I’m glad somebody else understands our issue with the way the 500 runs sometimes.

I’m going to try to make something similar this weekend. Maybe out of an old rubber boot I have.
