I've used the oem replacement, husky 372 and poulan 2800-380 3750 clamps. Gives you a whole bunch to choose from there just in poulans.

OEM one is like $2

I have been using the 372 clamp, but I have to cut away more of the plastic than I like, this is probably not serious, don't know if the 390 clamp is bigger. OEM 372s are $5 each at my dealer.

Joe, what comes in the kit ?
Is it a new boot as well as a proper clamp ?
A new boot would be worth $12

Tor beat me to it, it comes with a partition wall (the plastic part) and the new clamp. The boot is reused and sold as a separate item. I don't think that I have EVER seen a bad boot on this series.

Partition set has # 537 25 13 02

Separeted parts is # 537 42 28 01 and # 537 43 88 01:

I've never bought the 390 clamp, but if it's perfect match I rather prefer that one compared to the 346 clamp

Well done Tor,
Thanks. I've got one to do on a 350 and the existing clamp-boot thing system is a little confusing for a Stihl guy.

Napa part number

686-5883

I've been using these, I think a box of 10 costed me around $20 or less

Are sure that is the p/n. I can't get it to work at Napa, or maybe I need the line code.

when JRed came with their service bulletin for trimming the plastic clamp and use one metal clamp it was the clamp from 390 they recommended.
If I got it correct it's the same screw clamp JRed used on 2077/2083, later 2186 and 2188

By trimming the plastic clamp do you mean cut it all the way off? That is what I did.

If I delete the "-" out of the p/n it comes up as a 7'' long cv joint boot clamp.

Hmm, I'm not really sure... That's the PN that worked for me.

@Termitebuffet , he's the one who steered me onto these clamps and took that picture for me. Maybe there is a new number now that supersedes that one.

When I Googled the 5833 # it comes up as the small end cv joint strap. That would be close. A 7" strap is probably about right. Circumference of a 2" circle is 6.28".

It is not cut. That is the plastic part has a gap around the rubber boot making it look cut.
