That's a outside cover I see them sold on eBay so why let something like that pass through or atleast buff it off and get the right welding material
I hear ya. Wouldn't leave my shop.

If it looks like shít on the outside, makes one wonder what lurks beneath.

Do we know jason rebuilt that bottom end? Or did he just use a cruddy bottom end and haphazard slap together a top end?

2 things I take away from this. I have ttaditionally build my own stuff because I only trust myself to build it the way I want it. I don't build perfectly. ...most of my saws shoe back up on my doorstep from some stupid mistake. Live and learn.

2 ... buyer beware always applies. I have said this elsewhere....I've got no tolerance for people that don't do their homework and or ....have someone look at the item (saw or otherwise) that knows enough about it to make an educated decision.....before making a dollar commitment that is significantly outside the norm. Ie... 1500$ for an 064. ...seems outside the norm to me.

Ported saws are the worst. ...because who is to know what's worth what? I wouldnt expext warrantee with anything ported....

You buy it.....your stuck with it. Imho.

Just for reference. ...I have ...since November ...had 9 powerheads with Jason.

So....let's not going accusing people of not having the nuts to say something. I still have ongoing work with Jason. And frankly. ...it's not in any customer of his's best interest to say anything bad....until it's really bad.

Jason's work will sink or swim on its own....

For what it's worth..his grinding is prettier than mine.
1 thing for you....you are a fool to keep doing business with this guy. He's a snake in the grass and it's only a matter of time before he *f-words you like he did others.

28 pages already... there's a lot to read, but if I can help, i'll be happy to do it. I have some 064 parts I can send, or I can send some money to buy missing parts, just let me know, I really want to help.

I had some issues with J too, but he fixed it and it probably cost him a lot...

Really sorry for the buyer on this one. Fortunately there's a bunch of amazing guys here!

I'm thinking this is a good learning experience for the buyer .
but @Mattyo says this kind of work is perfectly fine unless he is the one on the bad end if that happens we get to listen to the *B-S.... for a long time and he tries trading off and selling the junk

I personally have never seen a pic posted of Jason's porting tools, lath, mill, ect

Wow, that's pretty scary.
I send him a 660 cylinder from a good friend's saw, and at first, he told me the post lost the package. Then, he sent me another jug, and honestly, my friend's saw is really strong with this one. But now I am asking myself... and if this cylinder was from someone else's saw?

This whole post is horsechit. You're saying it's the buyers fault for not....what? Stripping the saw down to the bare cases before he bought it?

Doesn't matter if he rebuilt the bottom end or used a *s-wordty one, he blatantly lied about and misrepresented the saw. But apparently he shouldn't be responsible.

agreed if the cases was to be powder coated they would have been stripped down and sand blasted to clean them up and get the oil out of the saw

Doing bad work should be more open like this for others to see.

Jason can still read all of this.

And I hope he does...

Marriage isn't everything tho. Lindsey and I have been together almost 4 years, we had a son, and everything has gone great. I've been married once before, won't do that again.

Don't get me wrong, been down this road one other time with the wrong one. I have a great son with her and she's moved on to suck someone elses life dry. Maybe I need to use all caps RIGHT wife... sometimes it takes having more than one to be sure.

80000 a year wasnt enough money for her and i rarely got anything i wanted or needed

I can understand the way you feel, has to be the RIGHT wife for it to work for everyone.

Marriage is sometimes overrated, agree?

See above comments...

another jms cylinder. much different finish in the ports. if he has been doing port work or 20 years then his finish would be the same. or the work was done by other people.

Instead of it being other people could it be that he runs so low on cash that he can't buy new burrs etc and has to use whatever he can get his hands on?

Please be nice to Mason, he's a good kid.

I will be respectful of Mason. I recognize that he has way more time than I do on the handle of a saw but he doesn't have the life experience to say some of the stuff he says. I hope for his sake he doesn't have a Jason time bomb waiting to go off...

Probably used your cylinder to fix someone else saw and then stole another one to make you satisfied when a good one came in the door. You may not understand the terminology but with $$ we would call it a pyramid scheme.

Sorry guys, I was typing on my phone. Yes, I do say buyer beware. If you are gonna spend $1500 on a chainsaw... and don't necessarily know what you are looking for, then you might consider 1 of 2 things. 1, don't do it. 2, have someone that knows what they are looking for check out the saw. When buying used cars, I believe this is called a "ringer". Just sold a used car the other day, the people that bought it had a friend of a friend show up who knew a lot about cars. He asked great questions and ultimately found that my price was fair for what they were getting. Thats called due diligence and is the buyers responsibility to themselves. I don't feel sorry for people that throw money around without doing their homework.

Now, if this was supposed to be all oem, new bearings, powdercoat, etc... its clearly not. And like I said, jasons works will either sink or swim on its own. If Jason puts together stuff like this, and thinks he will get away with it, he is obviously mistaken.

I really tried to read the whole thread... its a lot. Thanks for the post MM.

No Dallas I'm not gonna whine about it, but you have a point. Likely the $1500 was a stretch for someone, and thats gonna hurt. $1500 is probably a little less than half the worth of my investment with Jason at this point. I would have to assume there are few others that can say that historically.

Dallas, be gentle with me...I bruise easily. I'll have a cup of coffee for ya. And yes, I do believe that pile of chains that I got is annoying. Mostly because it was disrespectful to Scott. I bought the raffle tickets to support Scott. So why would a guy send me trash?

but then we are told it's not right to post pics of other porters work

Personally I think its poor form to post photos without a porters permission. But, then again, if you want to keep secrets, keep the saw. As soon as a saw leaves a porter, the cats out the bag. Said that before.

Personally, I don't mind if people take apart my work.... I need feedback....cause I aint the best :(

Obviously this isn't the case. He is being held accountable....right now. But that doesn't solve the buyers problem. The guys in this thread that have chocked up the dough and parts and MM's time HAVE solved the problem (or will soon).

I'm sorry guys to pound home this buyer beware stuff, but I don't think the consumer protection laws we have extend to ported chainsaws....and it doesn't matter anyway. The damage is done ... its gonna get fixed. But Jason has zero reputation left on this board after this. THATS on him.
