395 is an animal….gotta get the chain juuuust right for euc. Gotta the perfect grab in the sharpening process and feed pressure. You either get no bite or too much. Now I know why the aussies always look like tweakers jerkin the saw around . Sharpening every 2-3 cuts. I tried 24” square this morning on the 2166. So smooth it doesn’t feel like it’s cutting. I thought about maybe taking the rakers down and getting some more bite…but I tried it in some Aleppo pine first and it had Plenty of bite in that. You will hear the 395 screaming and 4 stroking. Probably a little fat from the fuel change and also it’s work to keep up with it and keep the feed pressure right to keep the rpm right.

I think it’s easier to Stand Up and Buck with the 3120, 42” heavy bar and .404” and just let it eat vs. working the saw.

@rogue60 I got to thinkin more…takes a lot of leverage to drop the tip on a longer bar through the hard stuff, is that another reason y’all run shorter bars?

@rogue60 I know what you mean...it's why you guys are always working so hard manipulating the saw. I did one log with the duracut on the 395 after work the other day. It was 90*...I was out of gas when the saw was. I think 36" .404 is gonna be my goto. Not sure yet if 395 or 3120. I have only run it 42" so far. I am almost hesitant to lighten the 42" for this kind of work...durability and the weight probably helps a little, ha!

Do you find the outer couple inches hard to break into on the dry stuff? I and @Socalmisfit do. You can see the gray shell in some of my vids. That's why I try to start from the " point of the egg" when I can.

- what keeps you from going a few inches longer on the bar in wood that size so the tip protrudes and you don't have to muscle it around?

I had ethanol fuel in my saws from the burnt tree demo job I needed to burn up. I should have pressure washed that log, but the yard was too muddy for the forklift. Used the 6100 24” on the small end, had to sharpen it twice, then a couple cuts with the 395 36” until it was out of gas and dull, then 28” on the 2166. All cut well which was nice. Dirty air filters…

have quite a few chains to sharpen on the used Stihl USG I got. These plus a bunch of used ones I got. Worked on the chain stop today as it wasn’t cutting the left and right cutters to the same length.
Time for some splitting and boxing for sale!

I keep it on my 288. Seems I was changing back to it on there quite a bit for big ugly stuff. I’m running chipper mccouluch brand.
I haven’t found any I don’t like. Raisman semi chisel full comp cuts well and is super tuff. I have some full chisel full comp and skip…like them all. That and the 395 or 3120 eat them big nasties for breakfast.

I’m running a hard nose 24”. Even if I have to hit both sides. I’m usually getting through. Saw pulls it hard. I like it. Honestly I can handle that saw with a long bar falling trees but she’s an armful all day. That’s my go to once it hits the ground. Or if I get a call about something ugly. Cut a few up that came out of a tidal river a couple years ago full of salt/silt. I sharpened once the job was done. My .325 just sparked and lost its edge 3/8 maybe a little better. I cut up 4 trees with the 404 and honestly just touched it up. Love the chipper. I’m sure semi is super great too.
