Is there a way to sharpen to reduce chatter? I have a lot of big logs to cut.
Thanks

One time I worked with a guy that had a tub grinder, that thing was amazing. It had rows of opposing hammers that would grind wood into chips, and you could change the hammers to make gravel out of rocks. They threw some old dry eucalyptus in it and it broke the rock hammers.

Larger OD file can help a bit, basically results in similar as positioning the file higher underneath the cutter.

Reducing the cutters top plate angle can help.

If You are running a larger OD sprocket on Your saw revert to factory stock!
I have found that an 8T 3/8" on my PS-7900 behaves worse in dense hard logs than a 7T - same log, bar, chain, saw, tune.

As mentioned by others, keep Your rakers conservative.

Use full chisel chains, I find semi chisel to struggle and chatter more severing fibers in dry hard wood.

Try utilizing a fairly worn/used up chain, of course as sharp as possible.
The shorter teeth will cut a much narrower kerf, thus removing less wood and causing less chatter.

P.S.:
Try and use quality chains, I found that sub par brands don't work well in any kind of woods lest in dry hard woods.

Thanks. I have some Carlton or something I got from @Cat 525 that has less hook I will try.
Carlton is good chain, I run it on my 36" setup.

I use dura-cut Oregon on 40yr old black locust fence posts I get from the farm. Its smoother? Than most and lasts a little bit longer.

Thanks, that makes sense. Have used the 6100 the most, noticed the chatter most with it, and it is a snotty hi speed little sucker. I will try the full comp semi on the 395.

I will try to get stuff ready and together tonight and maybe put saws in it tomorrow for a bit after work before it gets dark. If I can get the 2166 sorted, I’ve been wanted to compare it to the 6100, and try the 24” on the 6100....not buried in that euc, haha.

My 084 with a 36" 404 semi chisel full comp with plenty of hook runs smooth in that nasty dirty stuff. RM type chain. Not too aggressive but you can stick it when dogging in bucking.

All ready, will see what my wimpy little 395 does:D

I only have semi for the 30” and 42”, other saws will be stuck with full chisel.

posted this in the thread for this saw before. You can hear the chatter when I dog and nose down. Doesn’t do it on the rear end of the bar. Maybe chain could have been tighter too.

Isn't that Duracut the same as DPX?
