I have a few modded weed beaters. I have a dang good time doing evil things to them without reservation as they are throwaways. Hell I've piped one even. Much more fun doing a chore we all hate.

I charge $40.00 an hour to work on cars and OPE. I don't advertise to the public or do anything for friend of a friend types, I have to know the customer personally. And, if I'm not reasonably sure I can fix what's wrong with it or I just don't feel like doing it right now I'll pass on it. Occasionally I'll give free or low cost labor to someone that I know needs a break, you should always get good karma wherever you can.

I charge nothing for labor if I cannot fix the chainsaw with parts that I have to buy. But, if the saw runs fine after I fix it, then I charge for the parts plus my labor. Otherwise if the saw does not run right, the customer pays for the cost of the parts only. It's a risky business, and I bear most of the risk. Most equipment dealers do not. They want the customer to pay for the risk up front, whether the repaired saw runs correctly or not.

What is the problem with weedeaters, as to why so many shops turn them down for repair??
Too finnickey, and having to have the right tension on the throttle
cable just to get them to idle, air leaks are never ending, and most bring in old stuff thats long past replacement time and no maintenance done
& leftover fuel turning rubber stuff to gum.Yes carbs too!

I got it.
Just spoke with my local power equipment shop owner and he said much of the same.
He showed me a couple of nice new Stihl weedeaters for under $250...

It's just an interest for me ,I don't advertise nor do I have any intension of having a repair service .One of the tree services I do work for as I type I have his skid loader at my rental property .Tit for tat butter for fat .
If I need a bucket truck all it would take is a phone call . On the flip side if he needed a bull dozer ,a phone call would get it done .I'd probably help just about anybody until they take advantage of my kindness .If that ever happens I'm done forever . I could tell a lot of stories but I won't .

If I could collect on one tenth of the favors I gave out in the 1980's - 2015 I'd be building saws as a hobby in my shop. No shop here yet, so no hobbies till it's done or near done. Will never ever give away my services in any form. Jack of all trades but only for hire so call me when you can afford it or want to offer up your time/services to me for free, first. That is no longer negotiable and will never be again. People ruined that.

People are funny .I retired with over 50 years of experience as a journeyman electrician ,union BTW .People building a house or remodeling think you should do it for free but they always pay the plumber .Chit flows down hill but bad wiring will ruin your day .Don't get me started .
