359...closed or open port? If open, is it plastic with the aluminum riser? More cc that 357? Just wondering about the differences

The transfer dividers on the 353/359 must be cast into the transfer covers?

359 looks like husky got in a pissing match between open, closed, and bottom fed ports.

357 is stuffed?

Well shoot. I'd probably build the 357. And keep the 359 stock and sell it. Or port it and keep it. Or sell it and buy something a little bigger. Or smaller. That's probably why there's 25 saws in my garage. I have trouble getting rid of them. Dilemma for sure

heres a 353 but same ideer

I did pull the cylinder from the 359 to check out the state of things and see what exactly it needs.. I noticed that the lower transfers seem very unfinished and begging for a little time to be spent with them....

359 is staying with me... Because...CAD...

So, I am not as read up on "open port"/"closed port"... 359 looks like what I would call open.. Is that correct???

I have a 359 that Randy cut the base and squish and I ported, the thing is a torque monster, I also have a 357 that I did a gasket delete and ported, both are good runners. I prefer the cut base and squish, I'm a torque kind of guy.

An open port cylinder is open all the way. From the bottom to the top of the transfers. This is a Husky 55 (I think) with open transfer ports.

My 357xp has the base cut and a popup, plus port work... and it has no problem pulling a 24" bar. I guess you could call that torque.

I ported a 359 cylinder and cut the base and squish so I can see how it stacks up against the 357 with a base gasket delete and a large amount of widening and massaging.

The no stuffers thing came from someone I trust so I am curious to see if more builders pop in here with their opinion on that.

On the 353/359 transfers would you take out that divider like you would on the 365 xtorq? Or leave them alone?

The only pics I could find when I cut mine up was an old port job stumpy did. He shaped them and made the divider a fine line instead of a wide wall.

I miss stumpy.

FYI... Not stumpy in the vid...lol.

My vote is to do it up as well. I have a 353 that really turned out better than I expected, and I'll be trying the same on a 359 in the next few weeks.

DO IT ALREADY!!!!! I like the 357xp. I like the hp and throttle response of ported ones better. Honestly, I'd rather have a ported 359 as I like their torque and the slightly slower RPM more "muscle saw" sound/feel. I'm a bit neurotic as I appreciate the F-1/Indy car like sound and spool up sometimes, especially in limbing saws. When it comes to bucking saws, I'll sacrifice a bit of piss-revving speed for more loaded RPM in the cut. You might be surprised at how that 359 tuns out if built for torque. Something about the tortoise and the hare.

If using a 359 cylinder, I say no stuffers.

If using a 357 cylinder, I say it needs stuffers.
