The only pics I could find when I cut mine up was an old port job stumpy did. He shaped them and made the divider a fine line instead of a wide wall.

I miss stumpy.

FYI... Not stumpy in the vid...lol.
A stump Broke 359 is still the most impressive ported saw I've run.

Well besides that Czar 346 that Matt (Hedgerow) just got. :yikes:

Well, I suppose this thread is just as good a place as any to post progress updates on the 359.....

-I'm leaning heavily toward moderate mods to this saw. Base gasket delete, muffler mod, and a little bit of tweaking in the porting department.

-Black unlimited coil has been transplanted to my ported 372XPW and the stock coil from the 372 will be used in the 359. I figure 13.3K should be enough for this 359 the way I am looking at building it...

-Crazy as it sounds, my local Husky dealer where I have been getting most of my parts is out of stock for the crank bearings. So, crank bearings, seals, and gasket set have been ordered... Waiting on them, they should be in by week's end.

Should be getting the bottom end back together by the end of this coming weekend as long as I don't end up in the woods committing dendrological genocide with XP_Slinger! ;)

It might be with .404 chain but otherwise no... A buddy who has a 2100cd (which will be mine eventually) also has a darn nice 359... It may go see Randy, Terry or someone similar eventually for no other reason than because.

Well, I had a conversation with a friend who works at a Husky dealer about my 359 project today when I went to pick up some parts...

I was talking about whether I am going to mod it at all, and if I do, how much. He told me that since I have a modded and destined to be ported 357 I should rebuild the 359 and sell it to finance a better project like a 394/5 that I have been wanting...

There is logic to that, and I am considering it.. LOL!

Well, at least I have time to come to a decision...

I just got a call from that same dealer letting me know that my bearings, seals, and gasket set came in after I was there for work today.

I'll probably pick those up tomorrow and depending on what is going on this weekend I should be able to get the bottom end done.

If I decide to flip this saw, I think it would be wise to rebuild it to 100% stock config. Mods and porting might not be a selling point for most people unless the work was done by a well known builder and documented as such...

Well, I just got back in from reducing the 359 to a box of loose parts....

Crank bearings are definitely rough, so I think I'm doing the right thing in replacing them.

The cylinder cleaned up fairly well, but a little bit of shadow still remains. It doesn't catch the fingernail, but you can see it. I figure I'll get a $30 Meteor, port it and run it. Worst case I'm out the cost of the Meteor piston and end up having to get a new OEM cylinder kit.

Yes, I'm porting it and keeping it.... Fricken CAD!

Can't wait to watch the build thread.

Can't wait to start! Unfortunately it will be a little while though. The way this winter is going we'll be switching gears to boat maintenance come mid April. Like a lot of folks, we have a hobby for every season and not enough coin to fund all of them at once...lol

Know the situation with money only to well being self employed all my life. Things tend to Ebb and Flow …Out mostly cash wise :D! Have been trying to get a 357 for a while now and would have liked to have done a build along with you and your Bro, but Man ! talk about expensive and difficult to get now. There making 300 sterling plus if they are a runner …even poor.

I hear you Simondo, the market on 346's and 357's is crazy these days since they have been discontinued. I can't wait to see what 372's do once they get the ax and are replaced by the 572 or whatever the inevitable replacement will be called.

I completely understand your 357 itch, they're great saws. I was trolling for one for a long time and stumbled across one at my local dealer on consignment in december. It is near new and I feel like I stole it for $350 US!

So how does this complete shot in the dark sound: base gasket go bye-bye, raise transfers and exhaust both 3 deg, and of course re-working those God awful lower transfers.
