OK guys, please read this post before voting..

I have this dead 359 that I am getting started doing a complete crank bearing-up overhaul on..

I already have a 357xp that has a muffler mod, base gasket delete, and some lower transfer matching and cleanup. I plan to port this saw in the near future since my success at porting my 372XP-Dubya.

So this is the question, on one hand I am thinking of going all out and doing this 359 up with a muffler mod, gasket delete and some port work.

On the other hand, I have a modded 357 already that's soon to be getting more work done to. Planning to raise the transfers, widen and maybe raise the exhaust..

This being the case, I'm almost thinking I should just bring this 359 back in completely stock config and enjoy it for what it is... If I want to run a hotter 60cc I'll grab the modded 357... Little brother (XP_Slinger) says there's no way I will be able to resist grinding on that 359 cylinder before it goes back together...

What say you gents??

346 is going under the knife after I'm done with the 357. ;) Just have to do my research on the 346 and see if I can find some pointers as to what they like...

359 is staying.. :)

CAD.... it's a *b-word. LOL!

There will be no "enjoyment" running a stock 359 when you have a modded 357..... Make it a test, do your level best to each saw and race them against the stop watch, using the same B&C. Tape it, post it, and let us watch the festivities!

You know, I have seen it said many times that a ported 359 runs as strong or maybe stronger than a ported 357...

Makes me wonder how a ported 359 cylinder would run on a crank with stuffers like the 357 has....

Neil told me a 357 top end ported without stuffers was the way to go. I did mine like that and I like it. Not sure it it's the same with a 359 top, but I'd guess yes.

I've heard both ways was best by good saw builders....

I had both at the same time, ported by the same guy, and the 357xp was much stronger than the 359. A ported 357xp is a badass saw.

I agree with Duane. The enjoyment level of using the stock 359 will be low having a modded 357 sitting next to it. It will probably sit on the shelf. I have thought the same thing before and that saw has cobwebs on it. I have a hard time running stock saws when there's modded/ported saws on the shelf. Its also a lot more fun to put together a modded saw than a stock.

Looks like the votes are stacking up to do what I know you're going to do anyway:)
When you put it back together stock then run it, the dissapointment and disgust will wash over you and you'll head to the bench with it. I'll save my "I told you so" for that moment:eusa_dance:. I could be wrong, but I doubt it:icon_cafe:

Same here. The stuffers make a difference!

I'll be building another 359 soon and it'll get stuffers & a 357 top end.

How about , Almost stock ?? ( I vote stock) Just a tidy up on the gaskets and any flashing in the castings, open the holes in the internals of the muffler and a ease of the output hole/slats (don't know what you have in the US in the 359) on the muffler exit…just call it possibly what a hand build saw manufacturer would do without production pressure That way its going to be saleable to anyone who isn't into saws and you will have a benchmark saw to compare things to. Resist !…..Resist ! Difference is good sometimes !! :D

I would say that when you see how easy to port the 359 jug is well, may be hard not to port it. If you leave it stock with the cat muffler.Than it will more than likely sit off to the side.

if you are planning to send it away I would not fully port it. I would knock the sharp edge off the lowers for better flow and pull the gasket. open up the muffler or buy and aftermarket one and you will not be ashamed of it. if you go to sell it, the saw is still basically stock.

Well I see how one-sided this votd is turning out...but I can say I'm not terribly surprised. ;)

Being that this particular 359 was made in 2003, I don't think it has a cat muffler to begin with?? I could be wrong though. I do know it had a black unlimited coil on it...but that now resides on my ported XP-Dubya! ;)

I'm thinking I might do the muffler mod, base gasket delete, and a little bit of basic lower transfer work and call it good.... Or I might go all out...hell, I don't know yet!! Lol!
