Made some progress last night. Got the new bearings and seals in and the case assembled. Next step is to get my squish measurements and send the cylinder to Shaun to have the base and squish cut. He is also going to raise the transfers for me as I have been informed that I will not be able to do it myself with the tools I have at this time. I figure, this is going to be my badass saw and I want it built to the max! I'll do the exhaust and intake myself. We have more weather coming so I'll probably be spending extra time at work plowing snow in the coming days.. Thinking I will be able to send the cylinder off to Shaun some time next week. :)

Just sent my cylinder on it's way to Shaun! I can't wait to finish this build... With the exception of finding a nice clutch cover all I have left for parts to get are the inexpensive odds and ends. :)

So Shaun sent me a PM with these pics! :D

Cylinder is done and will be on it's way back to me soon!

He cut the squish and base, raised transfers, and worked lowers for me. I will do the exhaust and intake myself when it comes home. Jason, I still remember you telling me to be careful how wide I go with the exhaust and will keep that advice in mind. I'm curious what percentage of bore diameter it is in stock config. I'm also curious as to where the intake is going to fall after the base got machined, I might not even have to touch it and I'm not sure how much I will be able to square it up until I do some checking against the piston skirt to see how much can be had without freeporting it.

My parts list is shrinking and that is getting me pretty stoked!

Exhaust is 60+% stock but you can get 70% if wanted but as far as you'll need to raise the exhaust it's a ton of grinding but it's worth it to me. This one is at 99 and a huge 70%20161127_132708.jpg

Yeah, I took my 372XPW exhaust to just about 70% on the nose and combined with the other things I did, it really seems to work well. But I know that what works for one model might not necessarily work best on another. I'll probably widen it, but not sure if I will take it right to 70%.

That surely IS alot of grinding. Looks good though

Popup allows you to cut more from the base for higher compression, right? So you end up with the piston protruding past the squish band or at least even with it yet the machining of the piston crown adjacent to the squish band still allows for squish band clearance?

I never did put the degree wheel on before sending the cylinder to Shaun. What's typical stock timing numbers on a 394 anyway?
