Well, the time is finally right to start my Braapp-Shack 394 overhaul and mod build. Got it all torn down all parts cleaned and my parts list compiled last night. A few parts I will be in need of just for cosmetics. I'm not trying to make it look like new again, but rather better than it does. I'll be posting in the classifieds for parts I need as the build proceeds, so if anyone has any 394 parts in a box they don't have much use for, stand by. :)

I found the cylinder to be VERY lightly scored, marks are visible, but I can't feel them with a fingernail. Should be a quick and easy clean up, which is good because I really want this saw to stay a true 394, well, except for the addition of the HD air filter. ;)

I have planned for it:
-Base gasket delete. I have overhauled two other 394 a little while back, and both responded well to just a base gasket delete with no other mods.
-Some port work. I have consulted with some other guys here that are good with the big Huskies and will heed their advice. I want this to be a strong work saw, not a race saw.
-Dual ported muffler with a Red97 deflector. (Thanks Red97!) :)

I'm really looking forward to finally piecing my own big bore Husky together. Having done two for other people, it's nice to do one for myself now. It's not going to be real fast, I have a family and a budget to work within, so it will be like a Johnny Cash build only it won't take 20 years, lol! I figure a couple of months.

So here it is, in a box. All parts clean and ready to start reassembly.

Oh, I forgot to ask: Will a 395 cylinder cover fit a 394?? I'm thinking it does, but want to be sure.

The factory muffler outlet is more than enough if it's opened up all the way.
No need to add another

I may be wrong, but those look an awful lot like my large deflectors....
I see someone else watches JR's videos too.

@Wolverine that 394 sounds amazingly fast, revs like my ported 372!

I'm not sure yet on a timing advance. Curious as to what folks have to say for or against it as I haven't done it to a 394 yet. My 372 seems to like it though.
