originally came to me locked up, found flywheel sheared due to backed out coil screw. replaced coil and flywheel. now can't pull to start, feels like excessive comp when assembled. removed plug, pulls fine, removed muffler and reinstalled plug can't pull. removed carb can't pull, remove plug pulls correctly. Direct port. what am i missing? piston and bore look great like low hour machine.

Have you rotated the crankshaft to different positions (TDC, BDC...etc) and reinstalled the plug and see if it rotates at all, or does it do this in all positions?

seems to be at tdc .even installed shorter plug to make sure wasn't hitting. just had a thought , scary but could the hard stop have egg shaped the rod enough to cause the bind ? it does pull just hard at each tdc pass .

Just so I understand, it pulls hard at TDC with the plug out? Have you sprayed some WD-40 or put any 2-stroke oil in the cylinder to ensure the piston is moving freely (no sticky spots)? Not sure if that will play a difference. I try to make sure the piston has plenty of lube when troubleshooting and it isn't running.

pulling fine and dandy with plug removed . not rubing recoil and pawls are good, thinking now rod related to hard stop, was hoping to avoid total disassembly.it is helpful just talking out these questions.

I’ve never seen a forged rod bend. I have seen Stihl’s stamped rods bend and cause strange cranking issues. You’re sure nothing is jammed in the squish band area? I guess coil and flywheel are OEM parts?

yes, oem parts, bore scope didn't see anything and doesn't bind without plug installed. probably tear down after hitting the lake today. weirdly 62 deg today in Cincinnati, maybe catch dinner lol. appreciate the input.
