My dealer quoted me $400. I am not suggesting anybody buy this stuff. Just trying to show what is out there.

I'm not knocking what you are doing Lon. Maybe just attempting to explain my complete disdain for anything ope aftermarket.

Randy, I completely understand. You certainly have a lot more invested than I and your frustration is justified.

The owner of this site. @Gentleman he is the man who got ripped off. I just did the models for the Cross stuff. Bruce paid me and the Chinese. He's a dear friend to me......so seeing him treated in such a way angers me.

Competitor #4, the devil himself, the Huztl. For the most part everything in this kit is GTG other than the rings. Given the experience I had with the Cross chamfering the ports just in case. Timing numbers will be provided before the saw is run. The plating is good and the transfers are better than they get credit for.

What's wrong with the rings?

Also, that is a newer Huztl cylinder, different from the older versions, likely from a different manufacturer than was making their older 660 cylinders, so unless you can find one of their older ones with rough nikasil looking plating to compare with, I would disregard their history of quality or performance. Apples to apples. VS oem, it's still junk.

I just bought a new OEM Husky 562xp p&c for $130 delivered to my door….definitely not interested in the AM junk when OEM is so reasonable.

IIRC, the last time I purchased an OEM piston for a Stihl MS261, it was like $30….so actually cheaper than AM junk.

Sure except for some reason their p&c prices are all over the map model to model and sometimes just the piston is 3/4 the price of a complete kit. Granted not even close to as bad as the stihl parts mafia.
550xp kit's are nearly double the 562, find me some anywhere around $130 and I'll buy a dozen...

No dice on a dozen :D There is this if you need a 550 MK I p&C:

The rings are not a high quality iron and would likely suffer premature wear. As far as durability goes the jug is just a hunk of metal. The durability is all in the plating. This plating is very durable. I scuffed a piston and it left no detectable scratch on the bore. I would go as far as to say it's the highest quality plating in this group. Now the Hyway plating I do not have much faith in.

Great find, thanks, don't know how I missed that one.
Scooped it.
Still would have been around $167 shipped but the seller subsequently dropped it to $135 with a make an offer option so I offered and ended up at $146 after shipping and #%&*! tax.

I have three 550's in a box, all with scorched beyond cleanup-able cylinders, so the hunt for one or two more continues...

If I come across any more for a decent price I will try to give you a heads up.

So, how did the warhawk cylinder do? Looks like some good stock numbers you got. I'm looking at one now, and it looks like after cleaning up the bumpy areas in the transfers and widening the intake and exhaust a little in the direction the misalignment allows for, plus some basic porting, there doesn't seems to be much different from a >9.5hp cylinder I have sitting right next to it.

It has been negative digits here and everything is snow covered so I have not been running any saws. The Warhawk may be held back by its chamber. I think it will do much better modified. My plan is to run the Farmertec along with it both stock weather permitting. Go ahead and bust one out. Now you may ruffle a few feathers around here but *s-word happens. I don't see the plating being an issue at all.

I have built several of the 660 saws with Cross P+Cs and have not had any problems with the pistons. Randy is correct, the #s can be all over the place, but two were like twins and ran well. My brother has one, and the other is next door, and both still run well.

I also built the one featured in the HLS Website (on YouTube), and I still mill wood with that saw.

In addition, I had two of them ported (partly by me, partly with outside help) and mine posted 8.6 Hp on the dyno, with a very wide power curve. The other one was almost as strong and had a Meteor piston. Sold it to some pro firewood guys who have used the crap out of it, and love it.

I think my final #s were .020, 97, 120, 82. I love to noodle large rounds with that saw, it pulls very nicely.

I just timed a cross cylinder stock, no gasket with @Red97 digital degree box: 101.5, 118.5, 81.5. Squish was .028 stepping down to about .016 then .011 at a 2 stepped ring around the bore. Calipers measured it to be about .019" thick.

IMO, smooth out that squish band a bit, and lower the exhaust about 3* and you should be good to go!

I have the Cross on my 660 that Kevin did for me. Sad to say, saw has not seen wood yet as I just haven't been doing as much firewood the past couple years as I was doing. Hoping to pick it up some this year and get it in wood as @Wood Doctor gives some motivation, plus need to pay for the replacement splitter.
