I’ve got 5 52mm saws I am working on. I’ve been using old pistons with adhesive sandpaper to get by with cleaning up the squish band, but I want to take the next step with dialing in porting in these saws.

Is anyone up for building a mandrel with HSS cutter for me? Is a delrin mandrel the preferred material?

Is there an option for an adjustable mandrel to go from say 50-54mm?

The current saws are 2x 272xp, 2x Makita 7900, and potentially an 044/046 hybrid. I’m also sitting on a 576xp and 372xp oe.

Thank you!

Here is the budget option. I had to clean-up what looked like cavitation in the squish band. It went from 0.13 squish to .031. More than I wanted, but I didn’t want to leave the cobbled finish.

It’s just a sharpened bi-metal hacksaw blade in an old 272xp piston.

I have made a few from old pistons by mounting a 1/4 square cutter bit blank into the piston crown, leave about 1/8" of the stock bit above the aluminum. Sharpen nicely they cut very smooth with no chatter.
