I bought a brandy new Echo CS 310 once, but it was a Christmas present for a friend. My "newest" saw (apart from "Da Loaner" that Dad bought new sometime around 2003) is my 346 (I don't count the 562, it is on "extended loan" to a buddy).

So what's a guy have to do to get into this "extended loan" program? ;)

Be a good friend for many years, have your shop get broken into and lose ~$750,000.00 in gear and your insurance tell you to get bent that it is all deprecated. Oh, and have your 380 and 480 CD stolen off the back of your service truck and your worthless stepson put straight gas in your cherry 51.

Help me understand what was worth $750K that theives were able to remove from a shop without being noticed.

Heavy equipment mechanic tools, timing plates and pins for Duetz, John Deere, Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, Ford, Perkins, Injection testing and setting equipment, clutch setting gauges, measuring instruments (micrometers, indicators, calipers, etc...), not to mention the regular everyday tools (impact guns, air ratchets, grinders, sockets, torque wrenches, etc...) When everything you own says Snap On you can get to $750,000.00 in a hurry and it could all easily fit in a cargo van. That is what we figure happened, they cut the fence, backed the van in, cut the lock off of the shop door, pulled all the drawers out of the toolboxes and dumped the contents into containers, probably were in and out in less than 15 minutes. They knew what was there so it had to of been someone that had been there before, I think I know who did it but I have no proof. If I ever get any though that @$$h0!# is getting a good hiding!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how many members have running Wild Thing's in their collection?
1st and only new saw was a Wild Thing genre - Craftsman 4218. Bought in 1994 and still running 40 cords later. Has needed fuel lines, pickup, purge bulb, carb rebuild and a flywheel....a coil screw worked out and bounced on flywheel, killing 6 fins. Made quite the racket.

Only thing I buy new is socks and underwear. but never ever have or will be on welfare

New prophylactics are the way to go also...

I bought my first new saw this year, a Dolmar 421. I guess actually I paid my dad $330 for his 036 (which he bought new) and he bought a 421 with the money. I did all the dealing, and he's only used the 421 a few times, whereas i use it a lot, so I consider it my purchase, but I guess technically it belongs to him.

Never bought a new one. I have looked at them but they look boring!
They dont need to be stripped, cleaned and rebuilt, so whats the point?
No sense of pride every time you fire it up knowing the work you put into it.

Who wants a new saw when you can turn this:

The thought of buying a new saw has never crossed my mind.....I get so much satisfaction from bringing them back from the dead that a new saw seems anticlimactic.

I don't even pay much attention to the latest offerings from the big names.

I bought my 340 new a little over 10 years ago, and doubt ill ever buy another new one, though it has been a great little saw.

Amen. New saws interest me not at all.

Now, dumping a cardboard box full of bits and pieces of junk out on the bench, and ending up with a running saw, that's what this saw hobby is all about to me.

Some times the ones in the boxes cost more than a new one by the time they're running but the journey is what it's all about.

One and only one. My first saw I bought new. A husky 350. And I still run it when I can. But with fixing so many, I always need to find time to run and test others.
