Anyone else NEVER purchase a new saw?

I've never purchased a new saw. All of mine were pieced together from several busted saws. It's more fun that way.

He is a great dad! He fuels my CAD. Every time I go to see him I get a few more project or parts saws! I just got off the phone with him and he said he has an old McCulloch with 100+ cc's for me next time I visit...

I think the 372 is $700 or so and the 365 is $100 cheaper. Same cc. I've bought 4 new ones out of 75 or so I guess.

Bought a new saw only once, back in 1980. Got a Sachs-Dolmar 119 brand new at an Agway store my friend's Dad worked at. Sold it about two years ago because I got tired of trying to find parts for it.

Only once. Back in the early 80s I bought a new olympyk 251B. Still in my regular rotation. Got a few other saws though that I've rebuilt.

Only 2 new. Last of those in '07. Since then, I've found sites like this. I have "crossed over to the dark side" (as a friend describes the act of preferring to work on 2 strokes) and now rebuild nasty ones. Sometimes not cheap, but they are improved versions over new after using tips and tricks learned from hanging out with you guys.

It doesn't count, it just makes most of us dislike you slightly. Since we didn't get it first.

I bought a brandy new Echo CS 310 once, but it was a Christmas present for a friend. My "newest" saw (apart from "Da Loaner" that Dad bought new sometime around 2003) is my 346 (I don't count the 562, it is on "extended loan" to a buddy).

I have never purchased new. I find my saws out in the sand, lying in a cardboard box exposed to the weather, out behind a small engine guy's shop as one's that are beyond repair.
