I used FT in mine, and I won't say it was the strongest runner, but it ran ... good. I won't endorse their P&Cs across the board, but for this particular model, I think they do well, I got a lot of feed back from others before I went with it.

FYI, I used their P&C, rings, clips, and seals. Also did a muff mod & timing advance. The guy using it wants to buy it.

I wonder if it was slapping a bit... Did it sound "off" before it grenaded?
I thought the same too. It always turned over easy and it did not make any noise. I tried holding the piston on the same angle as what it runs in the cylinder and it looked like it had enough clearance. I need to see if I can find the old piston in my scrap container and compare it to the new one again.

Well my new cylinder came today from China. I going to order one from the US for $35 but it was sold out when I went to order it. I ordered this cylinder from machine doctor. I also ordered a Cross Piston to put in it, mainly because it come with caber rings. It was not that much more for a piston than just a set of rings. I keep forgetting to see if I can find my OEM piston in scrap bin to compare to the AM piston.

I put the degree wheel on it and got some numbers.

INT-161
EXH-162
BDWN-27

I can't remember what the transfer was. I'll get some pics of the cylinder tomorrow too.

I forgot to post these pics before. I think I found out what happened to the original cylinder. The carb inlet was packed full saw dust.

Here are pics of the cylinder before it went on.

I put it together and vac tested it and it was good so I finished assembling it. I also put an 044 carb on it temporarily and a my modded muffler of my 039. I'll mod the muffler on this saw later.

I started it up and let it idle and revved it a few times then shut it off and brought it back in and checked the compression. It had 135psi. The previous piston/cylinder never got above 125psi. The Chinese rings feels so cheap and brittle. The Caber rings have a better feel to them and I think they were even easier to install. I'm not using any more Chinese rings.

Have yet to see someone have this many problems getting a 290 going. What is the plan for the saws use?
Those pistons and rings are junk and they are the problem. That first jug looked kinda so so.

Saw looks good, but please do me a favor, wear boots when you cut! Even if you are careful with the saw, sooner or later a round will end up on your foot, and those sneaks will not help! I ALWAYS have boots, gloves, eyes & ears. Just a good habit.

I was just wondering if was your firewood saw. If so I was going to offer parts and help if needed. Just, never mind.

Thanks, Mike. I just wanted to make a quick video of it today. I usually have steel toe boots on when I cut.
