Stick a piston up in the bore and watch the ports close off. I look for maybe 1/8 - 3/16" roof arc from when the piston starts to close off the exhaust port. Allows the rings to slide in and not catch. The exhaust roof looks really flat in the pic, maybe too flat. Hard to tell in a pic.

If it were mine, I'd knock that lip off the intake and keep the bottom of the intake nearly flat. But that's me

I lost interest in this saw after the p/c turned out to be MS290. I finally got the saw back together and running. I am having some carb problems. It starts, idles, and throttles up fine. It runs horrible on a long cut. The carb adjustment is very touchy. A 1/16th of turn makes a huge difference, like what a 1/4 or 1/2 turn would normally make. t is very hard to get it tuned to where it will run. I rebuilt the carb. It was not my first time doing one. Yes, I have the gaskets and diaphragms on right. The metering lever is adjusted properly. The carb is a HD18B. I put a known good carb on it and it runs fine. Any ideas on what is wrong with the carb.

Well she flew to pieces Friday. I bet it has not cut much more than a 1/4 cord since the new topend.

Here a few pics of the piston then aluminum through out the engine. I have some in the muffler too.

The skirt broke on the intake side. I'm not sure what really happened other than the piston was junk. Both circlips are still in the piston. I was only running one ring.

Everyone fusses about how hard these saws are to work on but I had the cylinder off in 22 minutes.

I wasn't taking about you Mike. I was talking in general.

So when is the Cross Performance domed piston supposed to be available?

AM is a crapshoot. I've had good luck with farmer tec/huztl/machines doctor. Others havent. Vostore on ebay is another. Meteor and hi way are more $, but possibly better quality..

I found a farmertec in the US for around $35. I have a hyway cylinder on my 024s. It does not perform as good as an OEM, it does not even sound like an OEM. The Hyway is holding up though. I'll think about a meteor too. What about cross performance? I wish I could find a used OEM cylinder.

I'd try the FT. It's only $35. Keep on the lookout for a used oem in the meantime
