It’s whatever you want it to be, thing is a beast. LolWould be interesting to see the difference for sure Mason, is all the extra work of the stroker worth it? Also curious and I am asking because I have never seen or ran it, is the stroker a work saw or race saw?
Id bet those two graphs would be close. Scott has put some serious time into building these saws. I wouldnt bet against Scotts.I would be fascinated to see the torque curve side by side on a graph with John’s 661 stroker to see if there is a difference across the curve vs a normal stroke ported 661. The stroker was no joke when I ran it.
We haven't seen a ported 288 yet have we? I am curious how a ported 288 does against a 395.
The last 395 I handled, I thought, 'I think my 288 can whoop it'.
But damn that 395 sure is prettier.
Now enjoy some random Clutch - this thread is all about weaponized funk anyways...
I have a new older one on the shelf, may have to put it on!With your mods and the clutch mods would be a grunty saw.
Only problem finding a new old style heavy 660 clutch to use the shoes and springs from.
The one I used was out of my old part saws.
The part numbers are superseded order a ms660 clutch and Stihl sends you this light rubbish lol yes it has the same light shoes as 661 but springs are still 660
The last of the ms660 you could buy here had this light clutch in it.
You guy's might have a better dealer than me and can track one down am sure they would be still out there? My dealer just says that's all you can get now.

That’s the style I have on my 064. Definitely vintage cause it doesn’t have the “shoe guides” like the newer clutches do.I have a new older one on the shelf, may have to put it on!View attachment 247753
Not surprising at all, Johns builds are top shelf.Putting some time on the 661 stroker at Kevin's and talking with John and Cole about it I'd say it's a worksaw with the heart of a race saw. At a Michigan gtg before Kevin's it got passed around and worked all day no problem.
That's an option.Well the chinese clutchs are the heavy shoe one.. Maybe just use its shoes? The spindle might crack as I read.
Yeah that's the older clutch I have them in 066 we need to weigh the 3 different kinds of shoes see what they all weigh. tunability of a saw's pulling power through a clutch interesting..I have a new older one on the shelf, may have to put it on!View attachment 247753
Heavy metal is tungsten, no ?Prolly have to turn them on a lathe.
Might be able to run a die down a rod.
Heavy metal is tungsten, no ?
I'm boxing and sending my ported 572. Results good or bad will be posted. We need more dyno talk...
who's sendin saws?!?
Wonder how often the wheel would need dressed trying to grind threads in tungstenYes. Most are a tungsten alloy. after some research it is doable, but best to be thread ground. Vs turned.
