Port them with larger gauge wire to flow more electrons with less resistance. I imagine there would be slight but noticeable gains from using oversized wired from the battery to the motor. It holds true on RC airplanes, especially when a larger speed controller is used to simply reduce resistance.

I remember on the 1/24 scale slot cars we would replace the 12 volt motors with 3 volt motors (on a 12 volt track) and replace the brass axle bushings with bearings to reduce drag. I still have some of my slot cars from the mid to late 60s. A Viper and Manta Ray (made by Classic) and a Cheetah (Made by Cox).

An interesting tid bit.

963 pulls on this system. It has been almost 1 year since the upgrade. I am pretty happy with that.20210910_152912.jpg

Normally I do 4-8 pulls per saw, but some have multiple pulls at different stages etc.

I too agree that it’s not really possible to go by published hp numbers.

My machine shows lower hp than the published numbers but that’s chain driven power loss.

Most manufacturers know that very few people at home will have their own dyno to test their products.

But lately there has been many people coming up with interesting home built tools to test products with.

Quite likely causes a lot of sleepless nights and nail biting in the engineering rooms of those manufacturers as they witness their products being tested on full display on the internet for the world to see.

I wonder if it's not (Epa) numbers that are used. As they are the ones that do all the testing and say yay or nay.

Much like the 60's era muscle cars that were down rated for insurance reasons. Etc.

Would be true for everyone. Then it sits on the shelf looking pretty while we use smaller saws

I have not even held a 088, 880 and now there’s a 881.

I held a 3120 with a 6 foot bar but not run it
Everything of mine takes shifts for sure...the 346 however always comes with me. It's performance is undeniable. My favorite saws are 70cc's plus though.

Ported echo cs590.
This saw showed up with a muffler mod (middle line is this saw baseline)

I had a stock 590 run so I wanted to add it too. Muffler mod on a 590 really wakes up.

Swapped The carb nozzle to allow it to tune out.

Pretty happy with the results.

The ported saw would be fine for any application in my eyes. Firewood duty, felling, limbing. Thats a fine machine.

I upgraded my dyno from a dial scale to an electronic one.

I did test the dial scale for accuracy with a known weight and it was good.

The issue with it is the pump pulsing making the needle jump a little making me try and guess just what the number might be.

With the new scale on, the the dyno is now very smooth and the scale number is on point.

Turns out I was right on with my guessing with only 2 of the scale numbers for each x1000 rpms being off by .1.

Also the dial scale is KG and it’s another set of numbers I would have to calculate to get Ft/Lbs.

New scale is pounds, kilograms and newtons.
