As crazy as this sounds I have a cistern inside my house.....yes folks inside the house.

Water like rock is good at being a heat sink and will help stabilize temperatures in your house.

Speaking of having water in the house, another idea was to place a fair enough sized tank in the attic, supported properly of course, this would allow to fill it when you have plenty of power stored to fill it up and yet still able to use it without drawing power when a lean time comes along.

That’s sort of my idea, though not in my house. My property is on a slope, so if I put the tank at the top I would have pressure down to the house. I could fill it from the town overflow (which is farther up hill) but I need a 600ft hose. That would have other benefits because I could flood irrigate to keep my land damp longer into the summer. I back up to National Forest and there’s no real fire break.

It's an upgrade to having freeze dried shorts in winter.

Aw the shorts warm up when they hit the seeds......or the seeds cool down, I guess a bit of both.

I couldn't find the video I was looking for, but basically someone in the Midwest (I think) has a huge greenhouse that is regulated with earth air tunnels and they grow stuff year round and even some stuff not meant for that area.

Was it this guy in Nebraska?

Obviously we all like our chainsaws and our firewood stacks but still costs a lot after gas, oil, chain, logs, time, etc.. it is fun but looking for any other ideas. If any of you are interested in the subject?

Check out rocket mass stoves and consider feeding it with coppiced wood or hardwood scraps from various commercial wood products. Places like those producing railroad ties, wood pallets, or kitchen cabinets offload their “scraps” for free or very cheap.
