Alpina Prof 70 resurrection

I got this from a fellow up in Mound City.

Almost no compression, AF mashed and upper right AV bushing gone.

How it got to NW Mo is a mystery. Have never seen another Alpina.

Wrist pin is a press fit in the rod and uses a pair of external snap rings to boot. Like belt with suspenders.

Cylinder cleaned up borderline serviceable.

That’s melted piston material in the exhaust port. [emoji90]

Three spiral transfers per side. [emoji848]

Piston kit was listed for $45 on evilbay but the handling and postage from Italy ($54) ruled that out. Potlikkers!

Finally nailed one listed by Warped5. [emoji108]

Cleaned up with new piston kit and fuel system overhaul I had a 140 psi runner.

The bar oil pump system is a real Rube Goldberg but it works.

Found a NOS AF cover after another three months watching evilbay.

Remington 20” roller nose bar.

Clutch cover has a spring loaded bar dog.

Used a Stihl AV bushing subbed on the RH handle mount.

Works well.

We got some run time at the Iowa GTG. [emoji108]

The Alpina oil pump.

A plunger (15) follows a cam ground on the crankshaft and it presses on a flat spring (10) that engages teeth on the pump piston (5). It ratchets the piston along. [emoji849]

What would usually be a points box (R) is level full of chassis lube to oil the push rod and spring.

I got the Pro Kut version from Ted (Warped5) at a GTG that Wigglesworth hosted. It was a clean saw, I may have a picture somewhere. Parts are the biggest issue with Alpina saws.

Yes they were. Our local Remington dealer picked up Alpina when Remington went defunct. I have a 70 and a Pro just like yours. I did have several Pro45's that were strong little saws. Like what is said above. Parts can be trying at times. LOL.

hi all....many Alpina saws sold in Southern Australia from 1977 onwards....early models 40 41 45 55 070 P70 P90 P120...tough and long lasting old school
horizontal cylinders......later models 540 600 700 800 similar performance to Partner saws of the era....final models 450 500 522 360 371 were of great quality and were always great value in this market.
Final prof quality models were badged Komatsu builds. Some early NOS parts still avail ...happy to help with some used parts too....as there were some thousands sold in this area.

note to all....Alpina(Conegliano) purchased the tooling for the Remington Mity Mite ...mini saw...and rebuilt it with a plastic body and a chain brake around early '80's .....these mini saws had needle bearing mains and a 3 piece engine and were bullet proof...and with out question one of the best top handle mini saws of this era ....these had a combo of metric screws on the outside and US screw sizes on the engine and despite their toughness were a full camel treck to dismantle especially if you had to replace the crankcase pressure fed oil valve!! This model could explain why some Remington dealers had access to Alpina in the US at that time. Also we saw someone in the US using the P70 engine adapted to a rock crusher for prospecting.....cheers

Interesting reading @hemicrank. Glad your aboard as a member sir. I would like to read a little more on the Remington//Alpina marriage of sorts. Any reference material out there? I figured there had to be a let's say unpublished engineering sharing back in the late 70's to early 80's.

So Komatsu/Zenoah and Alpina built the final Alpina run of chainsaws?
