Maybe it's the way the picture is taken but it looks like your clutch is actually protruding outside the drum...can you confirm that ?
Maybe I can grind more off of mine

Any grinding should be to the other side, imo.
What is the height of the protruding section?
I took a pic of the distance between the drum and the oiler. What is yours?

Clutch shoes may be slightly proud but the nut portion sticks out nearly 1/4”

And, that’s my question. Does the first year 288 like Ernie’s need that shorter drum?

Probably has to do with the drive worm height too. I’d check that and crank stick out. Don’t have a clutch off a saw, didn’t have time

The Chinese *f-worded up. The one with no rust is chincom. Only the chincom one is higher when put on a flat glass. The Oregon 28094X is the same as OEM in every way.

I took mine apart to investigate. The same old style set up. The 2101 clutch drum on mine is still bigger lol..

The short one is from 61.. Just googled that number stamped on it.

It comes from brand new husky. I store saws with no bar and chain. Without them the cover would jammed up if the cover was pressed in more than it supposed to and very difficult to take off.

Yes mine got ground down a bit when I had it on wrong

From what I can tell is the inner rubber seal attaches to that plastic outer piece and is pressed up against the metal ring by the drum to keep saw dust out of the worm/oiler .
Just my theory...maybe it's NOT really needed .
