You beat me to it, please hold......Good evening David, did the mailman ever show up?
And now my head won't fit through our front door! Lol! Im officially out of my 3 series rut. I'm drooling over 254xp's, scheming on how I can get the 281 running and on and on it goes.An 066 sounds like a sewing machine compared to a 288, so in my book you've already won before the chain even touches wood
You're welcome
This one will be fun when finished. And now my head won't fit through our front door! Lol! Im officially out of my 3 series rut. I'm drooling over 254xp's, scheming on how I can get the 281 running and on and on it goes.
Can't wait to get that tank, I'll be repainting the case while I'm waiting for it to arrive next week. Didn't mean to drag this thread out but I've got the right stuff now and it MUST be done.

Smells like a build thread to me. But I hear ya, time is everything.I got enough bits here to build a 254 if I ever get time to work on the freaking thang

I was pleasantly surprised to see 185psi on my gage without the base gasket. Wasn't expecting a number that high with squish at .032. Glad I put a decomp on it!Dual port muffler and base gasket delete makes a very strong 288 or 281, even a 181. Your fingers wont like the starting compression much.
Best saw I ever had was this 154se/254xp.. Sold it for less money than I put into it. I am still sad about it...And now my head won't fit through our front door! Lol! Im officially out of my 3 series rut. I'm drooling over 254xp's, scheming on how I can get the 281 running and on and on it goes.

Sorry for the late response man I just saw your question. I plan on running the 288 stock for a little while just to get a feel for it, then I will be giving it my own flavor of porting. It will be my first time grinding on a 288 so I'll be doing a thread on it.But then you get the super and magnum versions of those Cubic inches and the whole systems goes tits up..
More to the point what are your plans with the 288xp?
This side of the pond it is hard to find a good saw builder. I would love to send my mag cylinder to a builder. I am really considering fixing the 066 selling it and putting a search out for a 181, 281 or 288 to play with.
Do 281 cylinders not have a compression release port?
Negative, no compression release
