Pull the tank and check for a undersized fuel line
That's usually the issue
Check that before tank vent.
You're going to rack yourself starting like that
I hold my saws sideways with the clutch side against my body
And pull with the opposite hand.
220# comp saws and all
Makes it easy for me.
Thanks, I'll look into the fuel line.

The clutch was uncovered, I didn't want catch anything important in it and ruin my day. But I'll give it a go when I finish the assembly.

I'm in the process of refreshing a thin ring 181, Should I change the carburetor over to the later style with the roller arm or keep the solid linkage. I have parts to do either one. Found a killer deal on a new 288 carb in the Husqvarna box. The case is split getting ready to go in the oven and bearings in the freezer.

Also what is the proper route for the wires between the ignition parts.

What’s the advantage to switching to the 288 style throttle? Not familiar with the 181 set up.

What bar and chain combo is everyone running for hardwood, im currently running my 281 and 288 with 24" 3/8 .063, thinking of swapping the 288 to 24" .404.

I'm chuffed, just picked up this really original '89 300th Annivesary edition for approx $240US, seems to be complete and unmolested and in pretty good condition. Original non-decomp KS cylinder too. Will need a new piston, it's not siezed but it is pretty worn. Clutch cover will clean up too.
