Alas I’m impulsive and bought this back to aid my impulsive friend buy a 54” GB bar and ripping chain for his 3120.

I don’t really need it and I’m guessing it will be pretty close to my 365 with trans covers ground (aka 372xp) or.... is it worth keeping for pure bragging reasons and porting and using?? I forgot what it’s like to pull these over too [emoji23]

That MAHLE cylinder can easily be tapped for a decomp valve. A big advantage over the KS281, and the main reason I plopped a mildly ported 288 on my 281 chassis - so I can actually start it. My ported 281 top end has more grunt. It also has over 200psi compression and this is at .031 squish.
Still, I would keep it as is. One day a museum or collector may want it. Or you'll be an old bastard like me and can make up stories about how you attacked an ISIS troop with it when you were once cornered in a hookah bar in Syria. Put little AK silhouettes on the bar beforehand.

HOORAY 288!
It’s been my primary felling saw, love the torque. Running a 28” bar.

Very cool you have that GI saw again @Adamski !

Got any pics of the 395 wrap on your 281 @PA Dan ? I’ve often wondered what it would take to make it fit.

Yes the story goes I obtained it, my mate obtained it off me as a temporary what he calls a ‘small saw’, he is a milling chap. And he is wanting to move it on to buy either a 572xp or ms462. I’m pushing him to buy a 365xt pull the trans cover and grind and save a few pennies in the process.

Anyway I bought it back after having it for a service. Oops. So I’ve found that it has a broke brake band (half works) and it needs a new clutch spring (spiral type) as it drags whilst idling.

I had it on a small milling set up (28” bar) this morning to give it a good beating and to pick up any issues. It ran well apart from the clutch dragging. The wood being milled was ash. There are a few lumps of oak in the background that need slabbing soon. I may use the 281 on these.
