Good evening! I work for a logging company and the saw I use currently for cutting brush, topping, felling small trees and all around work is a muffler modded 036. Now this saw is in good condition and was very lightly used before we obtained it. The owner and I are friends and we have been discussing either having the saw ported or trading it/selling it for another saw within the 60cc relm.

Any thoughts gentlemen?

@Landmark I should have specified! If we didn't port the 036 we would probably trade for another used saw in good condition. The goal is to have a light and powerful package, I carry a saw all day :)

I love my 360 pro! It quickly became my go to saw. Then after being on these damn forums I had some $$$ and had the thing doctor'd up and think it will be in my line up for yrs to come. Just ran it this weekend and it pulls!!
@drf256. thanks

I think I have a 360 pro somewhere, it just hasn't run in years I'm afraid.

The husky 562xp and 560xp (non US) get high marks, but are pricey and I'd want to hear about long term reliability more.
The Echo 590 is cheaper, but heavy.
Porting the saw will wake it up and put it closer to 70cc power output. It will also be louder as muffler mods make more noise. But if all you need is a small saw for limbing and topping and brush, you would do well to get a 50cc saw and port it to perform like a 60cc saw.
If you were looking for a used saw in the 60cc range that was very good on power/weight, go back to the husky 262 generation.

That's pretty much what I'm looking for, 70cc saw power (or better) from a 60cc size saw. I like the 60s over the 50s purely for torque, I find sometimes that I end up dropping some good size trees just to make windows for monster trees.

Keep the 036 cause their solid runners and dead nuts reliable. Good spare backup saw. It would be good to get another Stihl so you can share bars/chains etc but if you want to 'upgrade' I'd take a look at the 555 Husky. My 555 is possibly smaller in size than my MS261 but with 60cc's. Good broad power in a small package. The 6100 is a good saw but not small like the 5 series husky. This matters in your line of work compared to say a firewood buyer. I'd recommend a 6100, 620p, 362-II, 562/555. Many good choices. Best way to not regret selling your 360 is not to sell it.lol

I think I would be runnin a 70cc saw if that is the size wood you deal with everyday.

I can see why the 036 needs..... more

If I'm felling trees that large I usually grab either the company's ms460 or my trusty Dolmar 7910. One of the other company saws is a 562xp with a gutted muffler with a big Ole hole in it, I like that saw but the boss has a hard on for that one. He likes to use that one himself haha. I have used it though and it has great power for the size, I've also run a Dolmar 6100 that felt to me like it was stronger than my broken in 362 stihl.

I am confused. You want to either port your 036 or get another 60cc class saw with more power. But your goal is also a lighter saw? The 036 is around 13.5lbs and the 562 is 13.2lbs. It is lighter.
If you are wanting a lighter saw than this go for a 550.
