60 and 70cc saw opinions

I have only read the title and the first post.

I am not Dolmar biased, I simply never ran any other brand.

All three saws have side tensioners, all three can have dual spikes, the 6100 takes small Husqvarna/k095 bar mount while the 6400 & 7310 take large Husqvarna/D009 bar mount, the 6400 & 7310 share the same PH chassis with different displacement P&C, the 6100 holds the most fuel.

No I haven't read this complete thread yet...just here and there. I have alot of front tensioner saws and have been running the heck out of them, just contemplating a new saw.

I only have two now, just sold another couple weeks ago, didn't bother me a bit .
While the two I have are fun little saws I'll probably send them packing sooner or later, too bad they aren't a bit bigger for you .
Anytime you want me to bring something down newer or "oldish" let me know and I will.
Probably be another month til we make it down there.

I have owned/ran most of the pro 60cc saws and lots of the 70cc saws made since the 80's. The most powerful 60cc saw I have owned was a Jonsered 630 super. The rubber AV isn't that great but you can put 262/88 springs up front. The filtration is not like a current husky but it's better than most stihls.

For a 70cc saw it was a dolmar 7300/10, I have had one of each. They left a lasting impression! I had a new blue 7301 I should have kept .

On a power to weight basis, the new 462 is hard to beat for an unported 70 cc saw. My 044 has beat every unported 372 I've run against, and my 462 runs right with it.

While the 572 may be preferred for longer bar saws, the 462 is tough to beat with a 20" light bar. IMO, the spring AV, M Tronic, and clean air filter tech make it an even better saw than my beloved 044.

And at 13.2 lbs, it is about the same weight (dry powerhead) as a Husky 262 or 562 (new version).

If you are looking for a 70 cc saw with light weight and good features, it is very hard to beat. The only mod I've done to mine is a minor muffler mod.

Your right Mike, the 462 seems to be the saw of choice for weight/power right now in the 70cc class.
They did a great job putting the benefits of a husky such as the filtration and the AV into it, many guys still think it's too "springy" for them and still prefer the hard mounts.
I think the right thing to do is to buy one of each .

I had a 044 that was very strong also. It would run with saws of a little larger displacement and eat any stock 372 or 440 I've ever ran also. It would definitely be on my I should've kept it list which is a very long list.

I've had my 044 (new) since 12/92.

As my Dad used to say "Quality will be remembered long after the price paid is forgotten".

I remember thinking it was very expensive, but it was on sale, and I honestly don't remember what I paid for it. (the place was going out of business)

I don't believe that for a min, you probably remember the exact price to the penny, how much tax, and the guys name who sold it to you .

As Mike said they run well, just wish they handled a bit more like a husky/dolmar 7910, even though they weigh a bit more I like the way they handle better, same with the 261/550.

Let me know, I'll bring it down. Shes ugly, but has about 30 tanks on a bottom up rebuild/port, the cylinder was brand new when it was built/ported, I just like my huskys dolmars and even the 462 better.

For power to weight, I'll take the Hybrid … and I did not see any 461s competing against us up in NY. They are welcome to though.

I've never felt the need to replace a ported 460 with a ported 461. I think they both make strong runners.

I started another thread Echo vs....I have the same questions about new saws. I run Jonny ported 2152/59/65/71’s and stihl 460/066 stockers. I’m trying to decide to sell the crew and buy into the newer electronic saws. I’m no mechanic so either way I’d be paying for tune ups.
Have never had a Dolmar or Echo but hear lots of good things about them.

There is usually huge potential in porting both the 460 and 066, and both aver very durable saws. Even just a muff mod and timing advance can make a big difference (and pulling the carb limiters). Wish you were closer.

I would bet @Canadian farm boy would love to warm up that 066 for you, they take to porting like a duck to water.

Dolmar/makita is an excellent saw. Very well built, excellent power. Echo I haven't had personal experience with, but those that own cs590/620 love them.

I will have a saw or two CFB ported at some point, just been too busy this year.
Most tree guys in my area don’t like moronic saws and there are no husky’s to be found for miles. I have quite a collection of the 21xx saws that will in reality outlast me.
