60 and 70cc saw opinions

So I just go by feel. Sometimes if a saw balances better than another one, it can feel lighter even if it is not. A highly subjective subject really... run em and keep the ones you like is what I tell people.

Exactly, specs are just that, they can only give an idea of what a user will experience in their particular situation. That's one of the reasons I like to help guys get saws in their hands with the bar and chain combo that they would be running, all the specs in the world won't tell you more than having one in your hands.
Even leaning more towards the huskys if I had to choose between the 262 and the 361, I'd choose the 361, even though I think the 262 handles a little bit better. I prefer the wider power band and the side tensioner.

I would like to compare a 036/360 and ms362 to a 361, now that would be interesting. All equally modified same b/c and stick of wood. The ergonomics, AV and filtration are obviously more modern on the 362.

The new 362 V II is over 1/2 lb lighter than the previous version, so when comparing to a 562 the choice is between weight or power, then the new 462 comes into play … 70+ ccs, but about the same weight as a 562 … but it will cost ya!

Choices, choices … they all serve a useful purpose and we are lucky to have such a good selection … IMO, no wrong choice, just what fits your needs.

I hear ya, 462 is a neat saw that suits my needs perfectly. 562xp suits my price range. 562 has the power that will be needed for 80% of what I want it for. Echo 620pw really suits my price range, but is a bit bulky and large in size. Echo would be a great firewood saw but I have plenty of them.

The 462 is as light as some of the heavier 60cc saws on paper for sure. But fueled up with oil/gas and b/c in the real world... it is heavier and feels heavier than a 60cc saw because it holds more gas/oil. Imo it feels like I am holding a more modern 440 or 372 when I run a 462. I thought it was a sweet 24” bar saw. It didn’t feel like a big bore 60cc saw. Just my opinion. Nothing more.

Nah, I’d rather run a 20” bar on the ported ms361. I run 24-28” bars on 70cc saws. 562xp fluid capacity: 662 cc gas, 331cc oil. Ms462 fluid capacity: 720 cc gas, 340cc oil. Ms361 fluid capacity: 686cc gas, 326cc oil. 262xp: 600cc gas, 300cc oil. It appears to me that most 60cc saws on the market except maybe the 6100... hold less fluids than 70cc saws. At least briefly looking around online at the specs for a few of them.

Picked up this super clean and original 2171 and ran it next to my 462 yesterday. Two tanks through each. The 2171 is still an amazing saw, can’t feel much if any difference on size or weight. 462 is noticeably stronger but enough to insult the 2171?...not in my opinion.

Was playing around and after a while put a 20” laminated bar on the 462 for the smaller stuff. Need more time to test the whole 462 replaces a 60cc theory...

20” bar, hand sharpened chain, 14” ash and my 14 year old on the stop watch, this is our first attempt at timing cookie cutting so take it for what it is.
My ported saws are woods ported for working, not cookie cutting videos.

I was surprised how quick the 562 is.
I felt the new 565 was a dog and it kinda is.
Of course not surprised at all the 2171 rules the roost.

I’d like to know what your testing reveals to you. What kinda wood are you cutting and bar lengths?

I’m not one to setup tripods or time cuts although I appreciate everyone that does. The 462 is clearly stronger but for a firewood hack I doubt it would add up to that much more production. I know that we love to compare specs but with pro level saws it usually comes down to personal preference anyway. As a Jonsered fan though I’m proud that a much older design still feels like a current design next to Stihls latest and greatest.

I’ll keep taking just these two out cutting for a while and see if there is a saw I favor over the other. Need to pickup a lightweight 25” bar for the 462 so they are setup as equal as I can get them.
