50cc for me. Mostly because of what a lot of others have said already. 60s aren't noticably lighter than 70s to me, but definitely less power. Even the 400 don't do it for me. It feels so similar weight wise to the 461/2 or the 044s that I would much rather just grab one of them if I want something bigger than a 50cc.

Aren’t D jugs 34,755 milligrams heavier then the hemi jugs?? He will be exhausted shortly after starting and piss revving…

I hadn't considered the fatigue factor. My apologies for potentially getting a fellow member in a precarious situation with a heavy saw that could be remedied with one a few ounces lighter.

I'll try to me more mindful of what I post, thansk.

I had a muffmodded 261 for a bit and before that a ported 2252…the 261 had more low rpm grunt I think. 261 seemed kinda heavy (I have genetically crappy rotator cuffs and was working with it a lot above chest high) and the 2252 seemed light. I didn’t own them at the same time to compare back to back.

neither was anywhere near my XS 346. I look at how small it is next to my other saws and wonder how that little thing puts out so much powa.

Kevin’s porting is the test of husky’s bottom end…

Since the question by the OP pivots on your choice being a compliment to a 70cc, I chose a 50cc. Whenever folks asked me similar questions, I always recommended they go more than one step up or down the ladder. Didn't want them to spend several hundred $ and not feel they really gained the power or weight improvement they were looking for.

Haven't messed with the muffler on the 550M2 yet, but from what you guys are saying I think I ought to put that on my project list. :)

Completely agree Bob, I do the same thing down here. Of the choices listed I went with the 501P for four reasons.

1) Cost: At $499.95 + Tax with an 18" bar it is $190.00 cheaper than the equivalent other brands.

2) Weight: It is both lighter and more compact than it's peers.

3) Simplicity: Standard carb, no computers to futz with.

4) Warranty: The 5 years to the consumer Echo warranty is better than even the extended warranty from the competition.

Now, I am fairly confident the other saws have more power and turn more RPMS, but for firewood use can you justify the difference in price?

Also, if the 346 was on the list it would have been my pick hands down.

I have a Husky 465 that cuts better than it is supposed to and a ported 362. Both are about perfect for 90% of my cutting. I think they are both around 65cc.

If you have a 465 that cuts better than a “ported” 362 , then you got ripped off on your port job.

@Onan18 yeah Joe, I was surprised the Echo didn't get more votes. Good value saw there, but it doesn't cost anything to vote. And this is hardly the place where rational financial decisions are made on chainsaws.

Is the 501 a mag case or plastic case saw? And is the Shindaiwa 492 the equivalent saw in red? You know me when there's a choice between red and orange. ;)
