Isn’t this new 400 supposed to be a weak piece of junk ?
No, but I sell two saws (361 and 462) from my 4 saw plan. And bought this new. I used both saws for bar lengths of 40-71 cm. I now want to use the new one for that as well. Therefore, I wasn't sure if it had enough power for that. In comparison, the 462 obviously has more power.

Those were(obviously) two really good saws to get rid of, some of Stihl's best. So, I can't help but be curious as to just how well this works out for you. I hope we can get a follow up after you get some time on your new saw.

After sawing yesterday, I noticed that the AV system felt strange. It was loose in one direction. I then noticed that this white part was loose. See pictures. At first, I thought Stihl had forgotten something on my saw. I found the problem today. I've upgraded the saw to different dogs and roller chain catcher. I removed the old chain catcher and its screw in the process. But that screw is exactly what holds the white part on the other side.

I just enjoy sawing, and it bothers me when they just sit around. So I've reduced the number of saws I have.

I'll cut with the saw again this weekend. After that, I'll secure a log to make comparison videos. Planned mods: muffler mod, carb mod and oil foam filter. Not sure about time advance.

I can understand that perfectly.

I just put a foam under hood filter on a 462 for a fella, I don't know that it made anything better or not, I told him to test it out against the factory filter and get back to me. I'm still waiting for his reply. Otherwise, a sound plan. :)

Dyno Joe did a dyno run on the old 400, and it gained 2.5% with the RedBear/WCS foam filter. The videos from RedBull661 also clearly showed that the max flow filters are better. The only annoying thing is the oiling and washing.

Good old maintenance or the lack thereof are huge as far as performance goes no matter the type.
I have a 500i in with foam filter so caked that it was sucking fines at the base, left a trail through the intake, evidenced by the intake side piston skirt.
I'd say your assessment is correct on the annoying part to keep things running and working well.

I’ve been running Jason Egans filters for a while now. I just keep an extra ready to go.
