These guys that have all these weird break in procedures and play sprinkles with their saws for the first how ever many tanks of gas are pissing in the wind, I start them and let them warm up for a minute or so and then load the balls off of them. After a couple tanks of gas they run as good as they ever will, only saw I ever experienced that took a little longer to get loose was a 500, why I have no idea.
It definitely is a bunch of bs to idle the saw 3-4 heat cycles on canned gas mixed 25:1, let sit for night and next day couple more idle heat cycles. Then go cut for a tank at 1/2 throttle then finally cut at full power for 1/2 tank. Guy on facebook actually told me it was Stihl’s procedure to break a saw in with heat cycles idling then light cutting ect. Showed him break in procedure in a manual, says warm up and cut normally.

I've had chainsaws broken in by noon.
I’ve had them “break in” during the first cuts.

In many, you can hear a sudden jump in rpm with the same load on the saw.

I’m assuming that it must be the rings seating, but I don’t really know.

Many of us believe that the M-Tronic saws have a built in “limp mode” for X amount of running time. I have no firm proof, but it seems they all start to run differently after a certain amount of run time. It’s different than the older ones that slowly get better. The newer ones seem to have an abrupt change in their running characteristics. YMMV

May explain your 500i experience.

As good as modern oil is, I'm surprised they break in at all. No joke, years ago I worked for a guy big into Amsoil. He advised people to break in their (car) engine with conventional oil, then make the switch to synthetic. Also seem to remember Corvettes being factory filled with Mobil One, which was the first mainstream synthetic on the market. So, that begs the question... Damn, I'm OLD

BTW, who has inside track info. on when these things are going to hit the shores of the good old USA?

You guys know waaaaay more about this stuff than I do. I've heard guys reference the bearings getting loose as well...does that make sense ? I'm gonna have to check my notes in my trapper keeper, but to me it seems like some of computer saws break in 2 times...once after the rings seat where they make all the power they are gonna make...and then something else happens a couple gallons of gas later where they just feel more "free" if that makes sense ? Seems like they start easier too..but that could be my imagination.

Update about the saw.
I finally got the chance to test the saw on thicker hardwood (oak and cherry). with the 28“ bar completely in the wood. With a light hand it cuts completely fine. But If I had to make a lot of cuts, I would use a larger saw.

So it's a 60cc saw with the same limitations any other 60cc has and not the 2nd coming of christ ?

Yes correct, but definitely stronger then 361/362
Yep in production work I use a 60cc after a top handle about half the time, depending on the job. If the drop zone is big enough I’ll take a 462 up, but the old 400 is just enough grunt to make slice cuts and starts easier on the shoulder.

261 is great but I had to get .325”pitch out of our shop to simplify the number of file types. If I’m already running a 3/8”pitch 20” bar, then a 60cc 400 is a little more solid—especially if there’s some tension or twist on the wood fibers.

One negative thing. I’m using a foam filter in the 400.1 and was using it before on the 462. The filter in the 400.1 definitely gets clogged with saw dust a lot earlier then in the 462 or the 241 (also with foam filter)

Not a 400 but hf foam catch’s everything! Nothing getting through, so winning I guess…
