372xp woes... stalls at idle when you change orientation

Ok, just rebuilt a 372, base gasket delete, 1184 sealer, muff mod, nuthin crazy.

I did the pressure test twice, which included the intake boot.

I have tried 2 carbs, same issue...





The saw has an erratic idle. On a previous saw I fixed this with a new carb. On this saw, the issue is identical for 2 carbs. The high end tunes fine, 4 stroke at high, clean up in cut. The idle has a mind of its own. Turn it on its nose, the idle goes low, turn the saw on the flywheel side and it shuts off. it seems like it'll idle oddly all day if I let it, but I don't like the idea of it idling funny.

Crank bearings? Had a 026 do that to me once, held pressure and vacuum but cage was in the process of self destruction.

Fuel line/filter/vent are all good?

If it idles ok but when you move it it dies it's fat.

fuel line, filter are new... I will lean it out a bit on the low end and see if that fixes it...

bearings and seals are new also....

I think that will fix your problem.

A good way to check a saw and see if it's fat is to let it idle on the ground for 20 seconds then pick it up and tip it forward, if idle changes or it dies it's fat

its a china carb, and it seems to tune fine, but the low screw is only 1/2 turn out ....still has good throttle response, but the orientation issues seem to have mostly gone away....

haven't heard that technique before ... interesting

maybe the lever is too high, ...too much fuel at idle causing puddling?

I don't worry about how far the they are in or out. 1/2 turn or 2 turns. It tunes where it tunes.

Did leaning the low fix your issue Matt? I agree with Jason. No rhyme or reason sometimes. I don't even check where the screws are. Just tune it and good.

I've never thought about that technique before, sure gone try it out when I have a tricky carb or an saw I am not happy with the idle
