Most every saw I've ever tuned was fat, certainly one from a dealor.

After 20 seconds of idling on the ground if the idle slows when you tilt it forward it's fat. It should stay the same when the low is tuned properly.
cool, I bet most of us go lean, fat them up after the book, great acc and work done, at least thats how I've done it.
Today I've learned something new I can use, thanks J :)

Ok. ..the idle still isnt right. J...took your advice about the position of the saw...so I was able to eliminate that....but the idle just won't settle in. High end tunes perfect. Tends to go low and stall after a cut. Swapped the coil. No help.

Fresh mix fuel fyi.

Carb is set with low screw 1/4 out and idle screw full in...

Gonna swap the carb. ..something is still not right

Jason's advice is excellent, but I still think it could be a seal issue. Just because they are new does not mean they are good, and vac test will not always show it.

Also, base gasket delete could be an issue. I had to re do 044#1, it would cut well but gave me idle issues that would not tune out. Re did the base gasket sealer and the issues went away. Make sure you lightly sand both surfaces and clean with brake cleaner. Also, the base gasket could blow out after you did the vac test.

I would think with the idle screw all the way in and the low screw
only 1/4 out that saw should be screaming at idle. I'm not familiar
with a 372, Where doe's the carb get it's pulse. Is it possible you may
have partially plugged a pulse port with sealer when you did the gasket
delete.
Just a thought.

This is the exact problem I was having with those Chinese carbs. Both would run fine at the upper RPM range, but wouldn't idle. I swapped in a good used Walbro and the problem was solved. If you need a Walbro- let me know and I'll send one your way.

Same here, the wj69 clones won't idle very good.

The last 15 years of working on saws has taught me that a airleak is actually quite rare and even more rare for a crank seal to leak,I can't think of a single time that a crank seal was leaking that the bearing wasn't bad.
Pressure and vac tests may find a tiny leak that you would never notice,I don't test saws anymore, my mityvac checks a carb now and then and that's it.
