i'm not sure there's much point... making it worth it would be quite the trick. tons of work to do as far as I can see.

I just put a 460bb 54mm top end on a 440 ... that alone needs plenty of work to get proper fitment. still, if you are looking for a 54mm top, this is likely far easier than the 390/372 idea. i like the quad port idea, but the fitment is just so wacky.

another idea would be to have DD bore a 372 head to 54mm. if there/s room? then what piston?

I’ve did two of the 372s with the 385 cylinders on them with my wiseco 54mm piston in it I really like the power gains and I’m doing a 044 with the big bore cylinder and boring it to 55mm that’s another wiseco I designed for this build joe harkinson is going to dyno it for me

@Mattyo did you use a New West big bore for the 046bb? How did it run? I'm still thinking about a 272 on a 2159 - looking for lighter

I used the 460bb kit from the duke.... got 210psi with cabers and just optimizing squish. Its one of the nicest running saws I've made...and I've only just started it. Super zippy ...up to top rpm and holds. Very nice. Numbers were way off to start but I ended up at 103 125 80. Can't drop the head any more because it'll Freeport. Takes lots of fitup....but it did fit. :)

For what it's worth:

I hogged the front transfers out to make them line up. There's alot of material that can be removed. Also narrowed the front skirt. It did take some throttle response due to velocity losses. If I were to do it again I'd leave them alone or add to the case side cutouts.

I used a cheap hutzl 390 cylinder+piston, caber rings, 2mm spacer plate, 390gasket + sealant, 066 rod 36mm 372 crank, china 395 carb, and junk 2015 372XT cases bored to fit the 390 skirt. Ended up with .021 squish 100ex, 125t, 77in. Cut transfers to 120. So far it only free revs to 12100. Before porting it ran 10500 free and in the cut with 24" full comp square at 9-9500 green hard maple.

Real machining and quality parts would've been helpful to keep case volumes down and play with squish. I ended up with 125lbs compression so it's no real powerhouse.

For a hack job it's decent and a good learning experience. It's become an ongoing project now on hiatus as I've shifted focus towards my dirtbike project and have no real need to cut wood neither is any available close to my residence.

Absolutely nothing that I am interested in doing in any of these mix and match type builds. About 90% of my work is just simple mods to new saws.....and I'm ok with that. I have 17 new Stihls apart on my bench right now.....and I really don't have time to even think about what it would take to do something like this. In other words.....there are other builders far more suited to these type of builds.
