Well it looks like if I'm going to do this with the 660 piston it's going to be with a two piece cylinder. I've never done a two piece so it would be a great first time project.
I can use the 385 piston if I have sleeves made from milling a 13mm pin to the inside diameter of 12mm and cutting a couple pieces to length. Clips with big ears should keep the sleeves in place if I go that route. It's a scary thought to go using those sleeves like that but the pin itself is what gets the tension from the bearings so the sleeves might not create any extra force or wear on the clips.
McMaster Carr jas some different sleeve material.

Does anyone have a vid of pulling a crank apart?
Tim aka Dieselfitter has some pics.

I scored some nice head blanks today. 20170119_170609.jpg

I weighed three pistons, the 51.4mm 372, the 660, and couldn't weigh the 385 because it's to heavy and maxes out my little scales. My not as accurate postal scale puts it at 105 grams.
The 372 is 92.88 grams w/rings no pin.
The 660 is 94.27 grams w/rings no pin and after removing a little from the pin boss to fit the 372 crank.
The 385 piston feels so much heavier that I'm now not sure I even want to risk using it.

Where do you guys get the head blanks? My locals have nothing that big and I'd like to do a 272/359 like your last with a 2 pc.

I like buying 3/4-1" thick already cut in the diameter I need. I've been finding pairs or even 3-4 pieces the same size pretty cheap.

Yeah... How thin do you think you can go on say a 45-52 mm saw? Think 1/2" would do?

The plug depth and chamber side will come into play that thin. If you do not drop much into the bore it should work.

I suppose it's possible.
In this case I went past the point of no return when I modded the brand new oem 660 piston to fit the 372 rod end before realizing it was too short for the job. The only way to make it work was to take some off the top of the cylinder. It was a rookie mistake which turned out to be a blessing in disguise...I hope. I say that because it put the numbers in a good range for a pipe saw.
