Hi guys. A few years back I bought a like new hardly used 34 red levered super. It runs great and still in great shape. My only other saw will be the 372 ported that I bought on this site. These two saws will cover all of my needs.

Should I port this old 34 super? Anyone still run this old girl?

It’s really a 036..

I think the consensus is just to advance the timing a bit (20thou to 30thou) blend/smooth in the exhaust & lower trans and a base gasket delete but check your squish..

although there are two types of cylinders for the 034's , not sure if you have the open trans or the closed.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to give some more advice…:aplastao: and maybe ask a few questions.. and the obligatory pics of your saw etc.

I have an 036 that was ported by Doc Al. I don't have a ton of saws on my shelf, but it is still the one I use the most.
That model is a bit outdated and antiquated, but I really like it.

Thank you. Just wasn't sure if the saw was too old. The more I look at the 034 super statistics and try to replace it with a better model in the 60cc range the more I like the saw.

What's the HP rating? In can only find it for the 036 which is 4.5hp, not bad, but not 6hp either.

Being in the builder review section, each of these posts need approval from a moderator. Should probably make a new thread in the chainsaw section or maybe B-Rad would move it @Woodpecker

I don't know what ''red levered'' mean? here we only had black and white levered 034S. If we are talking about the same saw it's a beast ported. Mine beats ported 362 any day.

I got a ported 034 Super I bought from a member here, who had Randy port it many years ago. It's a great saw and fun to run.

I fell some bigger Alder with it a couple years ago using a 28" lightweight bar. No issues.

I'm switching it over to an 036 case for the side tensioner.

I believe the red levered ones were some of the earlies that were manufactured in Virginia Beach. Did the 034 not have a side chain tensioner? Mine does but maybe they moved production to VA beach later in it's voyage.

My dads 034 Super was bought circa ‘92. Virginia Beach made and has metal tags and side tensioner with the old school hard, ribbed handlebar grip. Tilotson carb too. Most other 1125 saw I’ve laid hands on had zama or walbro. His saw has the very rigid, red/orange plastic as compared to the brighter orange they have now. Id swear it was 5+ years older than it is but he bought it new. Still has the receipt. As typical with Stihl back then, there were tons of variations of fasteners, suppliers, cosmetic changes and running production changes. Hard to know all the subtleties.

Good running saws though. Vibey little thing, but his might just need new av rubbers after 30yrs

The early 034s had the front tensioner. I think my saw was built with an early case.

That's exactly how mine looks. I need to run some 50-60cc saws to see how the old girl compares. With your 372 I feel like I need to drop down to a 50cc saw to shed some weight as a second saw. Must be ported. I definitely have a taste for it now!

Great saws.

I’ve never seen a true 34 Super with a front tensioner, but I’ve seen a few standard 034 with a side one.

Like Kev says above, The 34S jug is 48mm like the 036, but has better ports and timing.

For a BGD, TA and MM situation, the 034S jug will nip at the tails of a fully ported 1125. For a ported saw, I actually prefer the 036 jug.

As for carbs, I don’t see any real performance advantage for the tilly. I’ve had them run well with the Zama. I’ve never seen a Walbro carb on an 1125.
