Im wanting to switch my 064 to .404 for some nasty iron hard oak I plan to cut for firewood and future stumping cuts. My plan is to swap the nose on my Oregon 34" RW to .404 and run the appropriate sprocket. My question is what DL chain do I need? In 3/8 the bar calls for 110 drive links. Is there an equation I can use to figure out .404 DL count?

100 ft rolls of 3/8" have 1640 drive links, .404 has 1480. If each roll is exactly 100' it would make 3/8" = .732 per driver and .404 = .810 per driver. 110 DL 3/8 to .404 take 110 x .732 and divide by .810 and it equals 99.407. so roughly 100DL. This is not taking into account that the 404 chassis rides slightly higher off the bar and sprockets. I would say @Dub11 got you the right answer.

I'm not real scientific about a lot of things .My avatar saw is wearing a 48" usable hard nose bar .I just ran a piece of chalk line around and ordered that many inches of it with a couple of tie straps .It's 143 drivers of .404 by .058 BTW . --you can't file that one in 5 minutes----
